World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Can you share a bit about who you are? Like, what are your passions outside of the pageant world? My name is Meghan A. Dyer, and I am an advocate, mother, and friend. I am currently in my second year of naturopathic medical school with a focus on women's health. When I am not in mommy or student mode, I advance women's healthcare as an OBGYN-certified clinical medical assistant. My passion is to help lower the maternal mortality crisis in the African-American community through evidence-based, holistic approaches that help stimulate the body's self-healing mechanism.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: I’m curious about your education journey. What's it been like for you, any particular highlights or challenges? My education journey has not been traditional by any means. After years of anxiety and depression, switching colleges 4 times, and changing my major 3 times, I eventually graduated with a BS in Exercise Science, eventually getting into the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine program this year. This entire journey has taken 15 years.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Women's empowerment is such a key topic. What does it mean to you personally? It means standing up for women who do not feel seen or heard. With my platform, R.U.S.H. For Justice, my goal is to be the voice that African-American women need in healthcare. As Ms. Illinois Petite, it is my goal to make sure the women I speak for and support feel that they have a seat at the same table as everyone else.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How did you get into pageants? What sparked your interest initially? I got into pageants when a friend of mine convinced me to participate in the Miss Black and Gold Scholarship pageant presented by the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Originally, I thought pageantry was only about looking pretty until I got to know the women I was competing with and quickly realized pageantry is more than a crown, it about being a leader, and advocate, and a friend to those in need.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What motivated you to participate in your first pageant? Was there a defining moment? I was motivated to participate when I decided I was going to do everything that scared me, including pagentry. During the Miss Black and Gold pageant, I was top 10. The following year, I decided to enter a non-collegiate pageant and won 1st RU to Miss Black Illinois USA 2024.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Why did you choose to compete for your current title? What made it stand out for you? I chose to compete for my title because the Petite USA system showed me that my stature does not determine my worth. I may come in a small package, but my passion is mighty! It stood out to me because I was not aware there were pageants for women 5'6 & under that provided TRUE sisterhood within the system.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: I'd love to know more about your pageant system. Could you explain what it’s all about?  The Petite USA Pageant was founded in 2009 by Hazely Lopez-Alvarez with a vision to empower and celebrate petite beauty, 5'6 or less. The Petite USA Pageant focuses on celebrating the accomplishments of petite women and provides them with the opportunity to be a voice and spokesmodel for petite women around the United States.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What do you think sets your pageant director apart from others? What sets my director apart is that Jenna encourages all petite women to remember height does not define one's ability, or potential in any dream or goal they may have, after all, "It's not the Height, It's the Depth".

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: During competitions, what are the key things you're judged on? During the competition, we are judged on a personal interview, swimsuit/activewear, evening gown, and onstage question.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What’s your competition experience been like? Any memorable moments or learnings? This will be my first time competing in this system, but I have followed it over the last 2 years. The Petite USA competition looks like a blast! They have a sparkle party that lets all the queens meet and get to know each other, and provides us with an amazing gift bag full of goodies from our sponsors.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Would you recommend your pageant system to others? If so, why? Absolutely! The amazing women I have come in contact with since receiving my title have been unmatched. I really feel like they are my sisters and can't wait to meet them at our upcoming National Competition held in my city of Chicago from July 8th-11th, 2026.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Tell me about your advocacy or volunteer work. What causes are you passionate about? My plaform, R.U.S.H for Justice, advocates to advance Black maternal health. I am passionate about providing women with evidence-based and holistic care while helping lower the maternal mortality crisis.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: With your title, what kinds of appearances or activities have you been involved in? I have been involved in Operation Bolingbrook, which provided resources to families in need. I've helped stock micro pantries, helped with the American Kids Multicultural Fashion Festival, and will be speaking at high schools about why women's health matters and how to advocate for yourself in a gynecology office.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Can you share some of your achievements, both in and outside of pageantry? Some of my achievements include receiving the title of VP of the Black Naturopathic Medical Student Association and finishing my 50th crochet piece this year.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: In such a competitive field, what do you think makes you stand out? I stand out because my advocacy focuses on a population that is often ignored. Black women are 2x more likely to die giving birth than our White counterparts, with the disparity rising. As Ms. Illinois Petite 2026, I feel as though it is my job to make sure ALL women feel safe, loved, and heard during and after pregnancy.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: I can only imagine how it feels to win. What was going through your mind when your name was announced as the winner? I was so excited, I ran outside and screamed it around my neighborhood haha! Most state titles in the Petite system are based on interviews with the National Director, Jenna Rhodes. When she emailed me to inform me she selected me for the title, I couldn't help but tell someone.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What does being a Beauty Queen mean to you? It means a woman who is not only beautiful, but loving, compassionate, intelligent, authentic, relatable, and a leader.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How have pageants impacted your life? They have instilled a new sense of confidence and ambition in me.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How have pageants influenced your self-esteem and body image? They have exposed a lot of my insecurities and forced me to love myself through them.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: You’re an inspiration to many. How does that feel, and what message do you want to share with others? It feels amazing to know that as Ms. Illinois Petite, I can make a real impact on my community with the help of my pagent sisters. The message I want to share with others is to stay true to who you are and be the best version of yourself, no matter what others think of feel about you.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What’s your strategy for captivating the judges on stage? My strategy is to come prepared, be myself, and have fun.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How do you prepare for competitions? Any specific routines or practices? I work out 3 times a week, pray daily, study old competitions, have walking rehearsals, mock interviews, and crochet daily to keep the stress away,

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Got any tips for nailing the perfect pageant walk? If you don't feel confident, you won't look confident. Make sure to wear anything that makes you feel the best, and the walk will perfect itself through consistent practice.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Choosing the right pageant dress can be crucial. What are your tips for making the best choice? Find a dress that suits your skin tone, shape, and makes you feel beautiful.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Interview rounds can be tricky. What are your strategies for a winning interview? Practie! Practice! Practice!

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Looking back, is there a moment in a competition you wish you could redo? I wish I had a coach during my early pageant days. I was going into pagents not knowing much about the style or hardwork it took to win a title. Pageant styles vary based on which category youre in, Miss versus Ms versus Mrs etc. They all have their own unique "look" to ensure the queen looks age-appropriate but still glam.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What common mistakes do you see others making in contests? Not preparing ahead of time, whether it's practicing your walk or mock interviews, or not packing extra supplies in case of wardrobe malfunctions.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Do you have any experience in modeling or acting? I do not.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What are your plans or goals for the upcoming year as a Queen? To get in touch with birth workers to find out how I can be of service in their community and how they can be of service to mine.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Finally, what kind of legacy do you hope to leave behind? I want my legacy to be the queen who listens, understands, and makes people feel they can do anything!
