World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Can you share a bit about who you are? Like, what are your passions outside of the pageant world?
Outside the pageant world, I am an entrepreneur and mom of three children. My passions include training in classical Indian dance, volunteering at senior day care centers and singing for charity events.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: I’m curious about your education journey. What's it been like for you, any particular highlights or challenges?
I completed my BA from Claremont Colleges with a degree in psychology and media studies in 2006. A year later, I joined Harvard University to earn my degree in business management. I graduated in 2010 and began working for the Environmental Defense Fund. Working for a nonprofit has been truly a rewarding experience for me because it gave me a newfound appreciation for things I had earlier taken for granted.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Women's empowerment is such a key topic. What does it mean to you personally?
Women empowerment means lifting each other up, instead of putting others down. A strong woman always supports other women by seeing the good in them, rather than drawbacks .
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How did you get into pageants? What sparked your interest initially?
My journey into pageantry was modest. After winning the princess title in a children’s pageant, I realized that I wanted to continue inspiring others and leading by example. In high school, I participated in our city's local pageant and won the title of Most Valued Person. After marriage, I went back to pageantry because I realized my need to do something beyond my household duties. I won the title of Woman of Achievement Ambassador, which gave me a platform to advocate for and that has helped me bring out the best in others.
My journey
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What motivated you to participate in your first pageant? Was there a defining moment?
My mother encouraged me to participate in my first pageant at age 10, so I could build confidence. I was always attracted to the stage and spotlight from an early age, so it was an enjoyable experience for me.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Why did you choose to compete for your current title? What made it stand out for you?
After my marriage and becoming a mother, I realized that I needed an outlet outside of my household responsibilities and job. Woman of Achievement was the answer to my prayers because this pageant focuses on the importance of advocating for a platform, and promoting it throughout the year.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: I'd love to know more about your pageant system. Could you explain what it’s all about?
Woman of Achievement is a pageant system based out of California. However, we have two divisions where women and teens are encouraged to participate in, regardless of which state they belong to. Each contestant is given the opportunity to present on a cause she cares for, along with other rounds including personal interview, fun fitness, talent, speech and swimwear.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What do you think sets your pageant director apart from others?
Marlena Martin, Director of WOA pageant, is a woman full of warmth and kindness. She is truly a pageant mom who has the best interests of her contestants at heart. She runs her pageant driven from passion to help others share their gifts with others, rather than make it into a business or scheme.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: During competitions, what are the key things you're judged on?
I would say contestants are judged on poise, talent, and ability to communicate articulately during their interview and final question.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What’s your competition experience been like? Any memorable moments or learnings?
I have learned that we are all strong women with gifts and assets to share with the world. When we focus on our strengths, we can make the world a brighter place. I have also learned that community always wins over competition.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Would you recommend your pageant system to others? If so, why?
I would highly recommend Woman of Achievement to other women, especially those who are looking to connect with self motivated women and fulfill their goals of public speaking, writing, modeling or otherwise.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Tell me about your advocacy or volunteer work. What causes are you passionate about?
I have been volunteering for many organizations since high school. I have been active in Jumpstart...Spark a Life, an early literacy movement for preschoolers from low income families. Additionally, I have volunteered for Pomona Valley Hospital in their maternity and pharmacy departments. To both organizations, I was able to contribute 500 hours. Currently, I am volunteering for National Eating Disorder Association where my duties include making appearances to colleges and high schools to present on Body Positivity, helping out at walk-a-thons and performing dance or music to support this cause.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: With your title, what kinds of appearances or activities have you been involved in?
As Mrs US Ambassador, I have been extremely fortunate to grace events such as Mother's Day Tea, Grand Opening of De Compass Learning Center, Walk for Alzheimers, and events organized by Global Peace Foundation, and local chamber of commerce in Whittier and Artesia.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Can you share some of your achievements, both in and outside of pageantry?
In my pageant system, I was fortunate to win the titles of Best Evening Gown and Best Talent. I have also won the IFAB Award for Best Original Song , SABAN Entertainer of the Year Award 2014, and the Dhallywood Music Award for my contribution to Bengali music.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: In such a competitive field, what do you think makes you stand out?
By nature, I am a very passionate person. Everything I do is done with great dedication and care, which is what makes my work stand out from the rest.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: I can only imagine how it feels to win. What was going through your mind when your name was announced as the winner?
I was shocked when my name was announced as the winner! Yes, I had worked very hard for this crown, but so, I feel, had the other contestants. I felt a sense of gratitude and renewed faith when I was announced as the winner of Woman of Achievement Mrs US Ambassador.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What does being a Beauty Queen mean to you?
To me, being a beauty queen means inspiring others to shine their lights, and make the world a better place with the gifts they have to offer. It means being a role model for the youth and women, in general. If I can do it, so can you! I am here to inspire people to make an impact.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How have pageants impacted your life?
Joining a pageant enabled me to impact the lives of those around me in a positive way. Beauty is more than just a pretty face. It is about contributing to the community, volunteering and spreading happiness in a meaningful way.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How have pageants influenced your self-esteem and body image?
I have learned that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. While winning this pageant certainly was a very positive experience, what boosted my self esteem most was associating with women who have vision and goals for a quality life. You are the company you keep.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: You’re an inspiration to many. How does that feel, and what message do you want to share with others?
Being an inspiration to many has always been my dream, and it feels wonderful that I am living these moments. I am thankful to have inspired others to achieve their goals and make an impact in their community and beyond. It is never too late to dream a new dream or set a new goal.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What’s your strategy for captivating the judges on stage?
My motto would be originality. The judges are most interested in getting to know the true you at your authentic core. Genuine people always captivate the hearts of others.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How do you prepare for competitions? Any specific routines or practices?
I have a pageant coach who has been very helpful in walking me through the pageant rounds and process. From talent to personal interview, my coach has taught me how to converse intelligently and to the point. When it comes to talent, I have always strived to add something extra so my performance stands out to the judges.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Got any tips for nailing the perfect pageant walk?
Practice leads to perfection. I would highly recommend joining a runway coach to perfect the pageant walk. Each step must be taken with confidence. If you stumble, simply make it part of the walk.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Choosing the right pageant dress can be crucial. What are your tips for making the best choice?
Fashion is all about expression, while also keeping it classy and elegant. It does not have to be expensive; it has to say something about who you are.
Choose a pageant that is within your budget and one that allows you to achieve your full potential. Let the crown be the key to your success.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Interview rounds can be tricky. What are your strategies for a winning interview?
It's a very simple formula, but many people miss the glory by pretending to be someone they are not. I would encourage contestants to be true to themselves and share their passion genuinely with the judges. There are no right or wrong answers.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Looking back, is there a moment in a competition you wish you could redo?
There is always room for improvement. If possible, I would definitely focus more on my fitness round and walks in future.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What common mistakes do you see others making in contests?
The biggest mistake I have seen is contestants not being true to themselves on stage. Giving a scripted answer to the judge's question takes away from authenticity. It is natural to get nervous, but it can be averted with the needful pageant preparatory courses. I highly recommend working with a soft skills groomer or pageant coach.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Do you have any experience in modeling or acting?
Yes I have been modeling for fashion shows internationally and clothing /jewelry and hair care products such as Wella Hair Care, Nalli Saris, Charms Couture, and Malabar Jewelers USA. I have been featured as a model for New York fashion week , London fashion week, Boston fashion week, and Los Angeles Fashion week.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What are your plans or goals for the upcoming year as a Queen?
I will continue my work with Body Positive Alliance and National Eating Disorder Association, so more people feel comfortable about their body image and appearance. I have some appearances scheduled each month and I am currently working on my solo concert which will take place at the end of May 2025.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Finally, what kind of legacy do you hope to leave behind?
I would like to leave kindness behind as my legacy. I would like to be remembered as the woman who always made people feel good about themselves. I would like to be remembered as a woman of warmth.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine would like to say thank you for this wonderful interview.
