Status: Divorced World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself. My name is Sheena, I have two amazing kids named Reece age 9 years old and Samuel age 7 years old. I work as a PhD researcher, Laboratory Demonstrator, and an Exam Invigilator. I was employed by the University of Chester within the Eco-innovation project which is part funded by the ERDF and in collaboration with the Smart Creative Technologies LTD working in the Chemical Engineering Laboratory. I have been employed by the University of Chester since 09 October 2017. I am currently involved in extracting silicon, aluminium, magnesium, and calcium compounds from the ceramic insulation fibres to recycle them and turn them into secondary raw material. This will be done with chemistry materials and processing techniques. This will also benefit the environment, the industries, and the economy by preventing it to be sent to landfill. My research work has been published and featured in UK’s science magazine NatureVolve 2020 and I co-author a scientific research paper New Journal of Chemistry (RSC Publication, UK) Title: “Columnar Self-assembly and Luminescent Properties of Basket shaped Liquid Crystalline derivatives of Schiff base moulded Calix [4] arene. World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about your education. I am currently on my fourth year as a postgraduate PhD researcher at the University of Chester, my final year is all about preparing for the submission of my thesis. I had a love of chemistry from a very young age. I am inspired by the likes of Albert Einstein and Nobel Prize winners. I am a former nurse from the Philippines which excelled in chemistry. “It was always my highest mark at school and when I wanted to be a doctor my mother advised against it as we didn’t have the funds. She told me I should study to be a nurse and then if you have the money you can study further.” And studying is what I am now doing. After completing my bachelor’s degree in nursing, master’s degree in nursing in the Philippines and a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical science in the United Kingdom, I turned in chemical engineering gaining a place at the University of Chester within the Eco Innovation Team and Smart Creative Technologies Ltd department. My PhD is investigating the potential approaches to recycle auto catalyst materials. The disused materials that make up auto catalysts can be badly wasted by industries such as construction. The environmental impact of not recycling could lead to depletion in natural resources, escalation in environmental pollution, reductions in the economy and rise in energy consumption. If the catalytic converter is open and catalyst material is exposed the waste material becomes hazardous and the project aims to look at processes to recycle auto catalyst materials safely and efficiently. World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment means to you? A movement of women’s rights and gender parity. A women who achieved great things and an amazing women who changed the world. World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant? I am inspired with the German-Filipino beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach title holder of Miss Universe 2015 from the Philippines. She joined on a national pageant three times before winning the Binibining Pilipinas Universe title to compete internationally in Miss Universe. I admire her for being optimistic, resilient, and not giving up her dreams. World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?
