World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?
Mrs. Universe Costa Rica is a contest focused on women who have children, who prioritized their families before themselves. Our goal is to show them that life can be balanced, and there is nothing wrong to fulfill their dreams even though they are mothers. They can take care of their kids and family without forgetting about themselves. We are a women's empowerment program that will show them what they are capable of and provide them with tools to carry out different personal endeavors.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Tell us what inspired you to start your system?
What really inspires me is being able to empower women and for them to realize the potential they can have and how far they can go. It inspires me to be able to see those changes in attitude and see them overcome their fears. The most important thing is that at Mrs Universe Costa Rica we look for women who are opinion leaders and women who make a difference.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Please tell us the founding story of the system.
I started this contest with my own savings, now we sincerely thank each of our sponsors for supporting us and believing in our contest.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What was the vision and the goal in the beginning while creating your pageant.
Our Vision is focused on women, to realize their value and just because they are mothers, they do not have to put themselves aside. Our goal is for women to be able to have an opinion and see themselves as leaders too.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Please tell us about yourself.
I am a woman who knows and understands very well the meaning of work. Started in the world of modeling at 13 years old and in the world of beauty pageants at 16 years old. I am 35 years old, and up to date have won 5 crowns in the different beauty pageants I represented. I also had the joy of representing my country Costa Rica in Miss Universe 2008. I've been and still am a TV presenter for 15 years. At this moment I am the director of Mrs Universe Costa Rica and also have a Beauty Salon. I'm really a business woman.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Please tell us about your education. Regarding my education, I am a Publicist with an emphasis in Marketing.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What does women Empowerment mean to you? Empowering women is my every day mantra I want women to realize that we are not the weaker sex, and that we are capable of doing everything we set out to do.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Tell us about your personal pageant history?
My pageant history is one of the most beautiful memories. At the age of 16 I participated in the first contest Miss Teen Costa Rica, of which I was the winner. By winning that contest I was able to represent my country internationally in two more contests in which I won the Crown of Miss Dream Girl of the year in Las Vegas Nevada and the Crown of Miss Teen International in Ecuador 2007. In 2008 participated in Mexico at Miss Pacific International contest, I won the Crown again. Later that same year in 2008 I decided to participate in Miss Costa Rica Pageant and was elected a queen. Thanks to this I was able to represent my country in Miss Universe 2008 held in Vietnam. World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What inspired you to do your first pageant? My mother was my inspiration, she was also a Candidate for Miss Costa Rica in 1980 and I wanted to follow her footsteps. World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Please tell us about your experience during Miss Universe Costa Rica. And how did it impact your life.
My experience as Miss Costa Rica was and will be one of the most beautiful experiences of my life! It allowed me to wear the sash of my beloved Costa Rica on the majestic stage of beauty pageants such as Miss Universe. That year (2008) it took place in Vietnam and it was almost a whole month of competition.
Being Miss Costa Rica opened many doors for me in the workplace. I had the opportunity to travel to different countries as a judge in different beauty pageants and also work for different international brands.
To date I have my Ladies Contest, Mrs Universe Costa Rica, and we come with great enthusiasm with new projects, focused on extolling the beauty and self-esteem of each women who want to be part of this beautiful experience.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Over the years what Country, state or city the competition took place and why? Mrs. Universe Costa Rica is a national pageant, held every year, it is held in our beautiful country, Costa Rica.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Tell us what was special about each year competition. The contest is different each year. We have the honor of meeting different women but all with the same dream, to be a Beauty Queen and an opinion leader. That is what the contest seek, every year and the goal of our contest.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What cultural significance has your pageant? Empowering women, giving them the necessary tools to improve the potential they already have, just with the fact of being women.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How long hours/days is the competition.
Mrs. Universe Costa Rica has a duration of 4 months, between the casting and the final night. They are given different workshops such as: Self-esteem, Empowerment, Finance, Neurolinguistic Programming, catwalk, Makeup, Hairstyle, Photo pose, Oral Expression, Acting and other.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Are contestants taken on any sight seeing during the competition? As an organization we like to take care of our candidates, so part of the preparation is to take them to a beach or mountain hotel and simulate an international competition where they have different challenges and they themselves have to prepare for each one of them. In addition, a gathering with all the candidates a week before the final night to be able to share all as friends that we also are.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What are the competitors being judged on during the competition? From the moment they are elected candidates, all their actions are being taken into account. Punctuality, Responsibility, Attitude. Normally in Mrs Universe Costa Rica we have a hidden jury so the candidates know that they are being qualified at all times of the contest. A queen is not removed in one night as she performs the runway and presentation. A Mrs Universe Costa Rica is Queen at all times.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How do you select your judges and who are they? The judges are different each year, Among the Judges we can have: Former Queens, TV Presenters, Recognized Journalists, Photographers, Designers, Sponsors. always in the field of fashion and beauty contests.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What kind of experience can contestants expect during the competition? An experience like no other. We are not only a beauty pageant, we are a female empowerment program, the women who enter Mrs Universe Costa Rica are very different from the women who leave when the pageant ends. They are more self-confident women who value themselves even more and know what their value is as a woman and as a person.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Do contestants have to support and volunteer for any cause or charity either before the competition or during their reign?
Yes, all candidates have a foundation that they help, we as an organization provide them with all the necessary help through events, and movements on social networks, we all help each other.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Does the system have sponsors?
Yes, we do have different sponsors, without which our contest would not be as successful as it is up to now. They are a fundamental part of our organization.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Please tell us little bit about each winner from over the years and what they accomplished through out their reign. Our queens are distinguished women, workers and fighters. Each one of them has managed to perform the Mrs. Universe Costa Rica in the best way for her benefit and the benefit of the organization. There are so many beautiful memories, since our Queens become part of a beautiful and crazy Family like Mrs Universe Costs Rica. From boxes on stage to moments where laughter ends in tears of happiness. We are more than a Crown.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What are your plans for your system in 2022 or 2023? We have a lot of plans and goals we just hope that this Pandemic will let us move on.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind as the owner. Our Legacy is to Empower Women, show them that because they are Mothers and Wives they do not have to put themselves aside. That if you fight with your brain and love everything is possible.
