World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment means to you? Encouraging other women to follow their dreams and passions. Lifting each other up and celebrating each other’s wins.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history. I started competing in pageants in 2018 as a married women. I was approached to compete in the Mrs. America’s system. I decided to compete that first year as a way to push myself out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. After placing first runner up that year, I decided to get pageants another go and competed in the Transcontinental - Mrs. USA Universe pageant this past Summer, taking home the title of Mrs. USA Universe 2019. I will now go on to represent The United States of America in Guangzhou, China at Mrs. Universe this December.
World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant? I overheard a conversation a mother was having with a friend where she spoke of feeling like she could no longer chase her dreams now that she was older - I felt this innate need to speak truth into her and tell her how important it is to continue chasing your dreams, regardless of age. I entered my first pageant to show women in my community that we all need to chase are dreams and win or lose, we will never regret trying!
World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title? I wanted to compete in the Transcontinental - Mrs. USA Universe pageant for a number of reasons. Their advocacy for domestic violence was a huge reason in my decision, as I am a survivor of DV myself. I also wanted to inspire other women to chase their wildest dreams. Mrs. USA Universe is a BIG title and competing for it required hard work and dedication. I am one who believes anything is possibly if you work hard enough and am a big dreamer. Having the opportunity to be Mrs. USA Universe and compete on the Mrs. Universe stage was a dream of mine and now having achieved it, I am able to do so much for not only my community, but also on a national and international level in the domestic violence arena.
World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about? The Transcontinental - Mrs. USA Universe system is about beauty that inspires, empowering women and advocating against domestic violence and animal cruelty.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition? State (or Country) Costume, Evening Gown and Forum Presentation.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition. My experience was top notch! All of the 2019 Transcontinental® Pageants delegates were treated to a fun-filled week of amazing sights, Atlanta area attractions, VIP receptions, dining at award-winning local restaurants and community involvement that included an ice-cream social with children and staff of A Friend’s House, a home for children in crisis - an organization dedicated to meeting the emotional and physical needs of children in crisis.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for. My platform is “Taking A Stand Against Domestic Violence”. I am taking an active STAND in the fight to end DV. Knowing first-hand the importance that awareness and education play in ending or preventing an abusive relationship I am partnering with schools and organizations to put programs in place throughout the USA that teach young adults the early signs of date and intimate partner abuse and the resources available for those who find they are in need. I am also a national spokeswoman for “The Pledge Campaign “- a domestic violence awareness campaign, with a focus on preventing violence to women, children, men and animals. “The Pledge Campaign” was founded by Transcontinental® Pageants Director (and Mrs. Universe Ltd. 2014) Sabrina Pinion.
World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title? I do appearances as often as I can! I have made appearances at The Knights Baseball game, community fundraising events, golf fundraisers, and the children’s library to name a few.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements? My greatest achievement in life is my son Camden. He is my pride and joy. Professionally speaking, I am proud proud to be the newly crowned Mrs. USA Universe 2019. I am honored to be representing the United States in China this December at Mrs. Universe. This opportunity allows me to continue making an impact on the fight against domestic violence not only locally, but on both a national and international level as well.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over? When I take the stage I take in every moment of it. I remind myself to take it slow, showcase all the hard work I’ve done and soak it all in, because we all know it goes by way too fast!
World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls? I believe every woman is beautiful. What makes me stand out is my personality and ability to own the stage.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner. I was elated! I thanked God and immediately looked out to find my family. I was thrilled to hear my name and be crowned Mrs. USA Universe.
World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen? To inspire others everyday. We have a very unique position in society and with that comes great responsibility. I believe a true queen is kind to all, an active member of the community and a pillar of society.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life? Competing in pageants has provided me to be in the best shape of my life. It provides me with confidence, poise and challenges me to be my best self.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your selfesteem and body image? My self esteem and body image skyrocketed since competing in pageants. The dedication and time put into not only training physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. I have learned a new appreciation to what my mind and body are capable of achieving.
World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel? Incredible! If I inspire one women to share their story and chase their dreams I have done my job.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk? Practice, Practice, Practice! The more you practice the more natural you will feel. Also, try not to overthink your walk! When you think too much you tend to become stiff!!
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress? When you find THE dress you know! You want to feel confident, sexy and like you could take over the world in whatever dress you choose! Selecting the right dress takes time, and you should allow yourself time to try on many styles!m
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview? SMILE! Do not forget to smile! The judges are people just like you and me, they are interested in hearing what you have to say. Remember to be yourself, speak clearly and smile!
World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition? I train year round! But when I am in the last 4 months of training, I hit the gym 5 days a week, eat very clean, meet with my speech & life coach weekly and practice walking in every outfit.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it? I believe every time you compete you learn things you could improve upon. After each competition, I look back on the event and think of where I can improve, and make it a point to make sure I nail it the next time!
World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest? I believe mistakes are made when you forget why you are competing in the first place. I never worry about the other girls in the pageant, I am not there to compete with them. I am only competing with myself. When you are concerned about everyone else, you tend to focus on THEM and not being you!
World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience? I have done runway and some print advertising work.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2019 as a Queen? My biggest goal for the year is to continue implementing educational programs into high schools and colleges nationwide that teach our young adults the warning signs of an abusive relationship. I believe if our youth know domestic violence is more than physical violence, and can recognize the signs of the emotional abuse side of DV, we can put a stop to the cycle at an earlier time.
World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? I hope to inspire others to step outside of their comfort zone and chase those big, crazy, audacious dreams they have. I hope to instill the believe that dedication and hard work DO pay off, and even if you do not succeed the first time, continue trying.
