World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.
I am Emilia Hann, my friends call me Em-Em or Ehmz. I’m 42 years old and a graduate of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics. I have been married for 20 years to Steve Hann, an American and we are very proud parents of 2 wonderful teenagers; Lorraine, 19 and William, 15. As a family, we love sports and to travel together
World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment means to you?
Women Empowerment to me is very important, it matters for it is at the core for development of families and nations. Women should be treated fairly, free from violence and should be given the right to make their own decisions in life.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history. I first joined a pageant in 1994 in college, when I was 17. That experience developed the self confidence in me and taught me to be independent and a responsible person. I had a couple more pageants within the next 2 years and then I stopped. Then, in 2014, I was invited to join a married women’s pageant and, yeah, after 20 years I gave it a try. Of course, the reason I joined was to boost my self-confidence knowing that even if I’m already married and have kids, I can still do this. And, to inspire women that we are not limited to just being mothers and wives, that we can still continue our dreams and passions and can still showcase our capabilities.
World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant? My first pageant was Miss NAS (Non-Academic Scholars) in University of San Jose - Recoletos. NAS are the working scholars in the university and I was chosen to represent our department, which was the library. We were the biggest department and I was inspired that they chose me to be the representative and how supportive my co-working scholars and librarians were.
World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title? Aside from showcasing my talent and culture, it has been my dream to be on an international stage. I am a proud Filipina and I want to represent my country the best way possible. Also, I want to meet other empowered women across the globe and learn more about them.
World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about? Milestone Pageant’s Miss & Mrs. Global International is focusing on developing the potential of women and girls to drive long lasting equitable social and professional changes. It strategically emphasizes promoting quality education, gender equality, sustainable livelihood opportunities and medical and disaster relief.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition? The candidates are judged on beauty, personality and character. We also have a Social Cause Presentation in this year’s theme, “Educate a child”, which takes 25%. There is also talent, National Costume, Fitness Round, Gown and, of course Q&A.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.
As the show started, it was nerve racking, but as it went on, I started to enjoy the Pageant. And the next thing I knew, it was over.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for. I am a youth advocate and for almost 10 years now have been a member of Kiwanis International: a non-profit global organization with a mission to empower communities, to improve the world by making a lasting difference in the lives of children, “one child, one step at a time.” Over the years we have been helping children through fundraising for charitable causes, feeding programs, donations of school supplies and medical missions. I am this year’s President of the Kiwanis Club on Cebu - Mandaue North, my local club. During my term, we have held monthly feedings in different barangays in my city.
World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title? I am already doing charity works myself, but I got invited to more charity programs, modelling for a cause and to judge beauty pageants in schools and municipalities.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements? Aside from winning pageants, being the president of my club this year and being able to have the feeding program every month from the beginning of my term is a big accomplishment and achievement. And my biggest achievement is being a mother of my 2 wonderful kids, seeing them growing beautifully, happy and contented with their lives is seeing success every day, and I couldn’t ask for more.
World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls? That would have to be my experience and by just being myself. These are all beautiful women with me and I don’t see them as opponents for we share the same goal and that is to inspire all women out there and to bring our advocacies to a bigger platform.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner. I thought about my family and friends, how grateful I am for their support from the beginning of my journey until now and that I made them proud. Above all, I was very thankful and grateful to God for blessing me and giving me this opportunity.
World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?
Being a Beauty Queen is not just about being beautiful from the outside, nor being famous... I's about being beautiful from the inside and being an inspiration and a role model to all women out there. It's about helping those who are less fortunate and to be their voice. It’s all about touching other people’s lives for a true beauty queen does not carry the crown on her head but in her heart. World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?
Gives me self-confidence, meet new friends, and try new things.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your self-esteem and body image? Beauty Queens are known to be examples of confident girls. Pageants form us into becoming self-accepting and Good Will Ambassadors.
World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel? It feels pressuring because I must set out as a good example to the community. But, at the same time, it feels self-fulfilling that I can affect other people’s live. Lastly, it challenges me to be a better version of myself.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over? My fighting spirit, doing my best, and being myself.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition? Trying to control my stress to be physically, mentally, and emotionally ready. Also, extra practice with walking and frequent rehearsal for Talent.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk? I watched major pageants and studied their technique and applied it to myself. I also practiced and trained with coaches to improve. World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?
A dress that expresses my personality.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview? Do not panic! Just speak confidently, remain positive, know your facts and opinions, always answer from the heart and remain elegant.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it? Sometimes when I get nervous, I walk too fast and this is something I have to work on. This shows that embracing our mistakes and correcting them helps us improve ourselves.
World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest? Beauty Queens cannot stand out the whole time of the Pageant, sometimes they must show patience until it is time for them to step forward and shine.
World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience? Some modeling experience for local events, but no acting experience.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2019 as a Queen? To use my Title to help expand my advocacy to reach more people and accomplish more
results.
World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? To be a Woman for others, especially for the children. To have improved my community and give greater impact to the lives of the children. World Class Beauty Queens Magazine would like to say thank you for this amazing interview.
