World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.

I’m a physician practicing anesthesiology in Virginia, USA. As the child of immigrants who fled Communist Czechoslovakia in the 1960’s, I felt a strong desire to take full advantage of the opportunities their daring search for freedom afforded me. I graduated valedictorian from high school and went on to prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology where I studied biology and my research discovered a gene which we started sequencing. I followed in the footsteps of my father and brother and went to medical school, followed by a four year residency in anesthesiology. I love my job and the human connection with my patients. Sars-Cov2 has made the my job quite risky for myself and my family, but fortunately we have better access to protective gear and know much more about this virus. I strive to educate and guide the public towards behaviors that will end the pandemic and save lives.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment means to you? In addition to meaning that today’s woman can accomplish anything they set their mind to, empowerment means having a sisterhood of supportive women who are ready to lift you up with encouragement to help reach all of your goals.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history. I am brand new to the pageant world. I was awarded Dr. World Virginia 2020, representing my home state and then competed and won Dr. United States of America 2021, which was held virtually due to COVID-19.

World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant? I’ve met many pageant queens in the world of modeling. I’ve was always in awe of their poise and excellent communication skills. I didn’t think I was pageant material since I didn’t have a stage talent. I was encouraged by a fellow model who thought this pageant for women’s with doctorates would be perfect for me. I came to the realization that I could do so much good with this title and decided to dive in with my heart and soul.

World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title? I initially was quite hesitant, but the amazingly kind director Dr Diana Lawrence coached and coaxed me through the application process. I was so intimidated, but she kept encouraging me just to be myself.

World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about? My pageant system, Dr World Productions, is for women who have earned doctorate degrees and who desire to promote the ideals of education, mentorship and community service.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the Competition? The world being shut down really modified the pageant because it had to be virtual. For my photo, I submitted a selfie from my phone since photographers were not available. My 83 year old mother took a video of me walking in an evening gown in my hometown’s most beautiful and historic garden. I submitted a short written biography and also filmed a field interview where I discuss what it is like being a physician. I had the opportunity to describe my work as an anesthesiologist and the particular challenges that I faced during my job this year with the pandemic. My job puts me at great risk of exposure to SARS Cov2.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition. Winning the title of Dr. United States of America has been absolute bright spot in this otherwise dreadfully sad year in which so many lives have been lost including my medical school classmate.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for. Using my background in biology research from MIT, my medical training, and my anesthesia training, I do my best to educate the public on COVID-19.

World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title? Of course appearances are limited due to the pandemic, but I have done some small masked modified fashion runway shows and I have appeared in some promotions for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. I’m also to be featured by our health department. I’m working with my large hospital system to make appearances to promote vaccination by appearing at the clinics and providing education.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements? At MIT, I discovered a gene and began sequencing it in the laboratory. As an anesthesiology resident, I won the award of “slickest clinician”.

World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls? Despite my inexperience, I think my enthusiasm, authenticity, honesty, loyalty, altruism, and devotion to science made me unique.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner. Because my pageant was virtual, I found out I won by checking the website. I was so nervous, so I had my six year old daughter check with me. She gave me celebratory kisses when she saw my photograph on the winner’s page.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen? Beauty Queens have a love for themselves and others that make them shine.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life? Pageants have given me the encouragement to speak out for the causes I am passionate about.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your selfesteem and body image? I’ve always been comfortable in my body and live a healthy lifestyle, but I don’t mind the occasional compliment as I am getting older.

World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel? I feel wonderful knowing that I can inspire young girls to enter science fields because I know they will use their knowledge to better humanity.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over? Because this was a virtual pageant, everything was done via zoom or recorded video, but the importance of eye contact and a genuine smile remains important.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition? I just did a lot of thinking about how my ideals aligned with the fundamentals of the Dr World system. I received interview tips from the queens Miss Virginia, Mrs. Virginia, and Miss for Virginia.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk? Since I have more experience on the fashion runway, I need to learn to slow down my speed. My runway walk is a little too fast and aggressive for the pageant stage.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress? Know what brands fit you best. Because I am very tall, I stick to a couple of designers. Most important is to chose a dress you feel beautiful in and expresses your personality. Once you narrow it down to a few, have someone else take pictures and video of you in the dress from all angles so you can compare multiple dresses at the same time and share with friends. I’m fortunate that I have a mom who is always honest with her opinion. Her pick always makes the cut.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview? The judges want to know who you are, so be passionate and speak from the heart.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it? I wish I had time to get a professional photograph taken, but the one I submitted was taken by my mom, who is my biggest fan.

World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest? Because the contest was virtual, I missed out on meeting any of the other girls during the contest. As far as I know, they did a great job.

World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience? I’m represented by Kim Alley Models and have walked in several fashion shows.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2021 as a Queen? I plan on savoring every moment as Dr USA while promoting my platform. By encouraging vaccination and masking, I hope to save lives.

World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? I think our pageant system motto “Smart is Beautiful” sums it up nicely.
