Who is Avon Viray Morales?

Ever since, Avon has dreamt of a quality of life that she can hold on to, that she can share with her 2 children and the community, and that she can be proud of as self-achievement. Avon's propensity to drive herself to higher heights has begun during her school days where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, and was recognized as the Outstanding Leader at one of the top universities in the Philippines.

She also has grown as a person, professionally.  Right now, she is the Human Resources Head in a Conglomerate.

On February 2, 2019 and on May 18, 2019, Avon emerged as the grand winner in Mrs. Philippines-Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant (national pageant) and in Mrs. Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant (international pageant), respectively.  Both pageants focused on Advocacy and Women Empowerment.

And recently, she was hailed as the:

• Images Asia’s 2017 Woman of Substance and Purpose

• Outstanding Woman in Commerce and Leadership 2017 Awardee

• Rotary International Outstanding Leadership Awardee for 2 consecutive terms 2018, 2019

• Manila’s Best Dressed 2017 Awardee

• Rupert Jacinto’s Portrait of a Woman Fabulous in Career 2017 Awardee

• Bobby Castro’s Outstanding Talent and Empowered Woman 2017 Awardee

• Philippine Empowered Woman 2017 Awardee

• Pamana USA’s Outstanding Woman of Style and Community Civic Leader 2018 Awardee

• Philippines’ Face of Success 2018 Awardee

• Philippines’ Best Dressed: Ambassador for Life 2018 Awardee

• Pamana USA’s Ambassador of Style for Life 2018 Awardee

• Philippines’ Elite 2018 Awardee

• Outstanding Woman 2019 Awardee

• Pinoy Achiever in International Pageant 2019

And all these achievements now she wants to share to her 2 children, who at the very young age look up to her as a responsible mother.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Avon’s beauteous daughter is the reigning Miss Teen Model Philippines 2019 Grand Winner.  Like mother, like daughter. So the sayings go. Once again, they have been undoubtedly proven to be correct.

With all the blessings, it is time to give back. Her involvement in an international organization that does charity works/outreach programs/service missions, being the President for two consecutive terms intensifies her advocacy, which is Empowerment of Underprivileged Communities.

As she builds her credibility and earns respect, she has been requested to appear in several TV commercials and print ads.

Avon still strives to live life with great awareness and mastery, so that in a hundred endeavors, she will always come out as the victor.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does Women Empowerment mean to you?

For me, woman empowerment is upholding feminism.  That, we women have to be grounded, driven and in-tuned with our reason for being, and that we have to fulfill our sense of purpose by recognizing and using our own gifts in bringing inspiration and in making an impact in the lives of many, in the community and in the world.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.

The Mrs. Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant (international) and the Mrs. Philippines-Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant (national) were my only pageant experience.  I never planned to join such events, before.  In fact, I declined the several invitations to join similar pageants including the Mrs. Universe.  I even politely turned down the invite to participate in Mrs. Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.

Everything started with the invitation from the organizers of Mrs. Philippines-Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant, sometime in October-November 2018.  I got a call from one of them, Willy Cuison.  Without batting an eyelash, I immediately gave my ‘NO.’  But Mr. Cuison was too insistent in making me a part of the pageant, that he enlisted me as one of the contestants without my knowledge.

On December 6, 2018, I was surprised to receive a call from the National Director, Mitzie Go-Gil, of Mrs. Philippines-Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant.  Jumping into conclusion that I was interested to join the pageant, Mrs. Gil was already giving me details of the pre-judging activity that would happen on December 9, 2018, and that was already in 2 days.  Confused, I asked- “What is this pre-judging about?  I didn’t even attend any of your pageant’s audition sessions despite the invitation and encouragement from Mr. Cuison.”  Like Mr. Cuison, Mrs. Gil was also persistent.  What made me say ‘YES’ was when Mrs. Gil mentioned that the pageant was an advocacy event, and it had been the major fundraising activity of its foundation to help the underprivileged communities through its charity works and outreach programs.

Since I had no ample time to prepare for the pre-judging, I was the only contestant who was not wearing a gown.  I just wore a ready-to-wear informal dress.  But I was surprised that I was awarded during the pre-judging as the Mrs. Queen of Hearts because I was able to capture the hearts of the judges and press people with my answer during the pre-judging/presscon Q&A.

World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?

I’m inspired to join the Mrs. Philippines-Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant (National Pageant) and the Mrs. Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant (International Pageant) because both the national and international pageants are advocacy pageants, and they have been the major fundraising activities of their respective foundation organizations to help the underprivileged communities through their charity works and outreach programs.

Knowing that I can contribute a lot to the foundation organizations, especially that I’m very much into community service, and that I’m leading an international organization that does humanitarian service mission, as the president for 2 consecutive terms, I’m inspired and pleased to be part of it.  I have realized that with the concerted efforts (my charity organization and the pageants’ foundation organizations), we can utilize the pageants as the venues for us to create effective awareness campaign initiatives that can attract attention and encourage everyone to act and fight against the imbalance of the world especially that these channels/pageants can go beyond the Philippines, can go Asia Pacific.  And if more people work on this, that can bring about success, peace and love around the world.

World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?

Mrs. Philippines-Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant and Mrs. Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant are national and international pageants, for married women and single mothers that focus on Advocacy and Women Empowerment.  They have been actively providing the following humanitarian services through their respective foundation organizations:

-Effective utilization of local resources in livelihood activities to improve the living conditions in the adopted communities.

-Develop and harness people’s participation in economic activities toward the development of the community through self-help and self-reliance.

-Charitable and humanitarian assistance to the needy especially the poor and victims of disasters and calamities.

-Build homes/shelters where orphaned children experience love and care.

World Class Beauty Queens: What were you being judged on during the competition?

The Mrs. Philippines-Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant and Mrs. Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant considered the following:

Advocacy, Character (Inner Beauty), Beauty (Physical), Intelligence, Confidence/Personality/Character Strength, and Talent.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.

I am advocating the Empowerment of Underprivileged Communities.

After my mom won her battle over the Big C (Colon Cancer), it made me more live a life of stewardship and purpose.  It strengthened my passion to help others and to make a difference in the community, as my give back to God.

Todate, I had led the adoption and transformation of 2 underprivileged communities-

The first one was Barangay San Martin de Porres, Quezon City.  Me and my fellow volunteers started to adopt the community in 2015.  We provided them livelihood opportunities such as baking, motor cycle repair, hair cut livelihood. We came up with mini-jobfair, coaching program, school-to-job bridging program, reading program for them.  We held several healthcare caravans where we taught them how to deal with common illnesses. The community started to be independent and empowered.

Now we are currently adopting and empowering the Community of Indigenous People (IP) in Culao, Claveria Cagayan.  Before we started our mission, this community was highly dependent, no decent dwellings (most huts had no walls, floors), no toothbrush, no appropriate clothes to wear, no enough source of livelihood. We started to rebuild their houses which made the IP to feel safe and sound as their basic survival needs were met.  We constructed and donated Community Learning Center, and the IP started to effectively communicate their needs.  We provided them livelihood opportunities such as weaving, handicraft and farming which made the IP more inspired to push for their empowerment.

We are set to adopt the Community of IP in Bacsay Mapula-Pula, Claveria Cagayan starting January 2020.

World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?

I appeared in several local and international newspapers and magazines, vlogs and blogs, and local TV shows.  I was invited by several local and international pageant organizations as part of the panel of judges.  I became part of the La Ilustradas Filipina photoshoot.  Most importantly, I had been doing 2-3 outreach programs and charity works within a month, across the country.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements?

I’m ever thankful to God for being my light and guide in all my achievements and success stories.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude (rank 1 in my graduating batch, as no one reached the Summa Cum Laude) at one of the country’s top universities.

Recently, I was recognized and awarded as the:

• Images Asia’s 2017 Woman of Substance and Purpose

• Outstanding Woman in Commerce and Leadership 2017 Awardee

• Rotary International Outstanding Leadership Awardee for 2 consecutive terms 2018, 2019

• Manila’s Best Dressed 2017 Awardee

• Rupert Jacinto’s Portrait of a Woman Fabulous in Career 2017 Awardee

• Bobby Castro’s Outstanding Talent and Empowered Woman 2017 Awardee

• Philippine Empowered Woman 2017 Awardee

• Pamana USA’s Outstanding Woman of Style and Community Civic Leader 2018 Awardee

• Philippines’ Face of Success 2018 Awardee

• Philippines’ Best Dressed: Ambassador for Life 2018 Awardee

• Pamana USA’s Ambassador of Style for Life 2018 Awardee

• Philippines’ Elite 2018 Awardee

• Outstanding Woman 2019 Awardee

• Pinoy Achiever in International Pageant 2019

• Grand Winner in Mrs. Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant 2019 (International) and Mrs. Philippines-Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant 2019 (National)

On February 15, 2020, I will receive the Fabulous Global HR Leader of the World Award, in Mumbai India.  I’m grateful to my former HR leaders and colleagues who have nominated me.

With all these achievements, what I am most proud of is being able to raise 2 wonderful children who look up to me as a wonder mom, which makes me love and live my life to the fullest.  That defines my very essence- a responsible woman who gives life, grows life and loves life, as steward of God.

World Class Beauty Queens: What made you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?

These qualities of mine made me outshine the rest of my fellow candidates, and made me emerge as the Grand Winner in both the National and International pageants:

1) I’m very much grounded with my LIFE PURPOSE or PERSONAL ‘WHYs’…

During the national and international pageants, I continuously reflected on the reasons WHY I was doing it.  I didn’t just settle on the ‘WHATs’ and the ‘HOWs’.  My ‘WHYs’ provided me opportunities to align with my ‘reason for being’ as well as with my advocacy, thus enabled me to focus on something greater beyond just getting the crown and the sash.  My ‘WHYs’ injected passion into everything that I showcased during the national and international pageants.  And to start with my ‘WHYs’, made me perform and speak genuinely from the heart…  And that moved and inspired myself, my fellow candidates and the judges.

As what my National Director shared with me, I scored perfectly in Beauty and Intelligence (Q&A) criteria.

2) I believe that I have the charisma, confidence and passion to enjoin others in strengthening my life purpose and advocacy.

3) I have the character strength that makes me an empowered woman.  And that, I continuously seek for self-mastery so in a hundred endeavors, I win.  Beauty pageant is also about empowerment and character strength.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.

When my name was called as the Grand Winner in both the National and International pageants, it made me realize that I did the right preparation, heart focus and mind-set.  That, I just needed:

-to be confident in using and showcasing the talents and skills, which God blessed me with to inspire others

-to be genuine in my performance (catwalk and talent) and in dealing with everyone who were involved in those pageants (fellow candidates, organizers, judges)

-to speak from the heart during all Question and Answer portions

-to not compete with my fellow candidates, but rather to challenge and compete with my own standards

-to be aware and to ensure alignment with my life purpose/reason for being and with my advocacy.

Just to share- to represent my country in an international pageant and to win the grand crown were my most goosebump moments.  Hearing and seeing my fellow Filipinos’ ‘cheers’ and ‘hurray’ inspirited me to raise the Philippine flag up high, and to wave it with pride.  The thing that I could commit- to try and make everyone proud of me by being the queen with genuine purpose, not just during the Grand Coronation Night, but during my reign and the rest of my life.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?

For me, to be a Beauty Queen is to be a worthy daughter of the Mighty King, God, by loving and living a life of stewardship and purpose.

World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?

I feel inspired to inspire all ladies.  At the same time, I feel a bit of pressure because to wear the crown and the sash is a great responsibility.  The crown and the sash make me realize the opportunity for me to be a great role model.

Wearing the crown on my head and the sash in heart inspires me more to be grounded and in tuned with my life purpose. The more that I will continue with my advocacy, and will even intensify it…

World Class Beauty Queens: What was your on-stage strategy to win the judges over?

My on-stage strategy was simply- to perform and speak genuinely from the heart.., and to enjoy the journey.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition?

My only preparations were-

-I just did mind setting and heart focusing by continuously reflecting on the reasons WHY I competed for the pageant, and aligning the ‘WHYs’ with my ‘reason for being’.  My ‘WHYs’ got at the deep reasons for competing beyond the crown and the sash, and that made me perform and speak genuinely from the heart, and at my peak…

-I also worked out everyday (running every morning, and swimming or boxing in the evening), because it helped in stimulating my mental and physical alertness, as well as in toning my body.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing the right pageant dress?

Wear clothes that can comfortably make your best physical features to stand out.  Make sure that all the dresses (cocktail and formal) are appropriate in all the pageant’s segments.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning the interview?

My tips- just speak your heart out, as there’s no right or wrong answer.  And back up your answer with essence and with your experience.  Do not memorize answers from Google, else you will not be genuine and judges will feel it.  Please note that your answers have to be a reflection on who you are.  Smile…, and be confident and real all throughout the interview.

World Class Beauty Queens: What was one mistake that you did during the competition that you wished you could redo and fix?

I only brought one pair of high-heeled shoes during the International Pageant.  Worst of all, the pair was 8-inch high-heeled shoes.  I struggled doing the catwalk that I stumbled down during the Grand Coronation Night.  I wished to have realized early not to be concerned with my 5’2” height to wear such shoes.

World Class Beauty Queens: What mistakes were made by the other girls during the contest?

Some contestants were more concerned with their aura and physical representation.  What they failed to realize was, physical appearance wasn’t the most attractive thing.  It was the inner beauty that radiated beauty and attractiveness.  Aligned with the pageant’s criteria for judging, Character (Inner Beauty), Advocacy, Intelligence (the ability to speak one’s heart out) and Confidence/Personality/Character Strength were given higher weight, than Physical Beauty in the total score.

World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience?

I appeared in several TV commercials, print ads, and magazine covers and newspaper features.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2020 as a Queen?

Before I won the national and international pageants, I have been doing charity works and community service missions already.

My plans for 2020 as a Queen?  I will continue what I have started right after I won the 2 pageants- ‘an intensified advocacy.’  I will continue to partner with the pageants’ foundation organizations because concerted efforts can do great impact.  To be specific, we are set to adopt and empower the Community of indigenous people in Bacsay Mapula-Pula, Claveria Cagayan starting January 2020.

I will also continue with my journey in my quest for self-mastery.  A queen with self-mastery meets and wins every challenge with confidence.

World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

As what I answered when asked during the Q&A portion in the International Pageant, “How I would like to be remembered for? I'd like to be remembered as an individual with character strength and unwavering determination and courage to stand by her faith in God whatever the circumstances may be.  More importantly, I'd like to be remembered as a caring mother, responsible daughter, dependable friend, empowering career leader and inspiring civic leader who made a difference in the lives of many, in the community and the world.”
