Allowing a woman to be the best she can be in all aspects of life by giving her the confidence and information she needs to help not only herself but others.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Tell us about your pageant history.

I’ve competed in the Ms Senior America Texas, Ms Senior America Nationals, Ms Senior USA and the Ms Senior World Pageant. My titles have included: Ms. North Dakota Senior America, Ms North Dakota Senior USA and Ms Senior World Texas Hospitality. My past awards include Ms Photogenic and 2nd Runner up in the Ms Senior World Pageant.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What inspired you to do your first pageant?

I never thought I could be in a beauty pageant, but my Husband encouraged me to enter a pageant after I turned 60.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?

I wanted to represent my home state of Texas and show other Women in their 60's that they can pursue their dreams at any age.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?

It's for women in their 50s, 60s, and 70’s. Women are chosen as Queens to represent their State in their age group and then go to Nationals where a woman is chosen as the National Queen to represent each of their age Group. It's about women empowering women. This pageant focuses on empowering the delegates and provides strong leadership skills to help them embrace their roles as mentors and volunteers.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What makes your director different from others?

Sherry Strother and Sara Jo Burks are kind and supportive of all the participants and they do all that they can to make sure that every woman has their chance to shine.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What are you being judged on during the competition?

Interview, activewear, runway fashion and evening gown.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Tell us about your experience during the competition.

Everyone was so kind and encouraging from the backstage help to other delegates. I had never felt so at ease in a pageant before. It was truly a sisterhood and I’ve made so many new friends.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Who would you recommend your system to?

Anyone in their 50s, 60s, and 70s that feels it is their turn to shine and have a cause or platform that they want to help by bringing National attention to it.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.

I honor veterans and the military and promote national patriotism as an active member of Post 178 of the American Legion Auxiliary.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What appearances have you done with your title?

I honored a 100-year-old World War II D-Day veteran at his birthday party and parade. I put flags on veterans’ graves on Memorial Day and made appearances at Veterans Memorial Park. I represented the pageant at the Ilive Women and Girl Expo. I’ve brought coffee and donuts to the local Police on Police Appreciation Day. I’ve made appearances at pet adoption days, wildlife rescue centers and been in parades.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What are some of your achievements?

Helping Seniors to live better lives by helping them gain strength and balance as a personal trainer. I helped women in shelters by teaching exercise classes and using the proceeds to buy the items they needed. I raised funds for a non-profit by organizing teas and fashion shows. I started a children’s theater so that children with disabilities could also be included in classes and show.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?

My natural poise and elegance.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.

I was thrilled beyond words! I could not speak.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?

To be kind, courteous, elegant and to always look and do your best when you are representing your pageant and volunteering in your community.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How did competing in pageants helped your life?

It helped me become a more confident woman, willing to step out of my comfort zone to make new friends and to volunteer more.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How did pageants helped your self-esteem and body image?

I grew up in an abusive household and was told that I was ugly and that I’d never amount to anything. My first two Husbands were abusive and continued the same dialog that I grew up with, so I really had a distorted view of myself. My current Husband, John helped me find the confidence that I needed to forget the past and see my true beauty by encouraging me to be in my first pageant.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?

It feels wonderful to know that I may help empower another girl to believe in herself and hold her head high as she moves on to a better life by ignoring the bullies and haters.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What is your on-stage strategy to win the judges over?

Be confident and smile at the audience and judges. Let your inner light shine!

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How did you prepare for your competition?

I practiced for each part of the competition in the clothes and shoes that I’d be wearing so I’ll be comfortable and confident onstage. I practiced interview questions with family and friends.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?

Watch online videos of pageant walks and practice daily in your pageant shoes. Have a friend compare your walk to the videos so you know what you need to work on. Are you swinging your arms too much or taking too big a step?

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?

Have a friend go with you to take photos of you in each dress that you try on. You can really get a better idea of how you will look in the dress and if it flatters you or not when you look at the photos.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What are your tips for winning interview?

Be graceful entering and leaving the stage or room. If you are to sit, practice sitting and getting out of the chair. Speak clearly, smile make eye contact.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?

Not talking long enough when answering an onstage question from the judges. I answered the question but did not go in more depth about the organization I was volunteering for. If I could redo and fix it, I would tell them more about the organization and the reasons I cared about what they did.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest?

Being nervous and talking or walking too fast. Rushing to get off stage.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Any modeling or acting experience?

I modeled when I was in my 20’s doing tea room and fashion shows. I started modeling again in my 60’s doing fashion shows for charity. I’ve acted in Community Theater since I was a Teenager.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What are your plans for 2022 as a Queen?

To continue representing Texas by volunteering in my community and to prepare for the National Ms Senior World Competition in November in Biloxi, Mississippi.

World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

A legacy of kindness, generosity, and mentorship and goodwill. It’s never too late to believe in yourself and help others at the same time.
