World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.
I am Victoria Lim, Ms International Singapore. I have been in the banking industry for about 10 years and moved to the hospitality industry since 2012. During the 8 years in the banking industry, I was in the research department and thereafter I decided to move to the hotel industry. It was a big change but it was worth the effort as I have learnt different things and have a varied work experience.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.
This is the first time participating in a beauty pageant and I am proud of my accomplishments so far. I never ever expect myself to join a pageant let alone winning it. As this is the first time that I joined a beauty pageant, I decided to put in my best efforts and I’m so glad that I managed to succeed in doing something out of my comfort zone.
World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?
One of my close friend is also a beauty queen. She is a mother of 2 boys and has her own beauty business. She is a busy entrepreneur and is also very active in giving back to society by doing charity work for the underprivileged. However, she manages her time well and this is not an easy task, and she motivated me and I am glad that I have my friend as an example in this area.
World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?
This title will enable the winner to serve the community and contribute to society. With this crown and title I will be able to help others through raising funds and to encourage and them to improve their lives. To be able to see the smile and happiness on their faces is good enough for me to try hard for this title. This
World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?
This pageant system is a way by which I can carry out the things that I strongly believe in and that I would like to carry out. It also symbolize and carries the qualities of embracing women from all walks of life, who are educated with good morals and integrity. Through this system, these women will be able to help and encourage the less fortunate people in society.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?
We are being judged on fitness in sports, health and beauty, poise and composure, evening gown, communication, charity involvement and talent competition. Also being caring to each other and people in general.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.
When I decided to join Ms Singapore International, I told myself to do the best that I can or not join at all. I would not want to do something half-heartedly so I put every ounce of efforts that I have into improving myself and strengthening my confidence. I also reached out to my friends and family and colleagues to ask them for their support in my journey. I also push myself to go out of my comfort zone and be stronger when I’m not in my element, Ultimately this journey was a good experience for me and met other ladies who have the same mind set as myself.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.
I chose Lions Club of Singapore as they are a charitable organization who help the underprivileged regardless of race or religion. I have participated in a few of their activities and I feel encouraged and motivated to do more to help them.
World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?
I have been to the old folks home to visit them, sing for them and just to spend time with them to give them some happiness and some warmth from knowing that we are here to care for them.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements?
My current achievement was that I won and was crowned as Ms Singapore International 2018 and having a happy blessed life. Only by being happy that I can give others happiness.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over?
Everyone has different criteria of what beauty is all about. Everyone is beautiful in their own way so I just be the best that I can be and show the judges the happiness that is within me.
World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?
Everyone is unique and has something special about them. For me I feel that it would be my smile. A sincere smile radiates from the heart and hopefully my smile can warm others and make them smile too.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.
To be frank, I felt really happy and proud of myself. That all my efforts were worth it and I managed to accomplish something that will enable to do better and bigger things in life. I was very hard on myself and pushed myself to do my very best. At the same time, I was nervous and excited because I need to pull yourself together and show your best qualities so that my supporters and the judges will be glad that they noticed me and singled out.
World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?
I'm happy and excited to be crowned Ms Singapore International and be a part of the TKS family. To set an example for people to see that we should encourage each other and make this world a better place.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?
This pageant has helped me with my confidence in life. It doesn’t matter what you are wearing, or how great you look, if you do not have this quality it will show in every area of the competition. From the catwalks to the interview questions, my confidence has definitely benefited from it.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your self esteem and body image?
To be honest, self esteem and body image can make or break a person, especially a woman. I used to think I was flabby in certain areas and I worked hard at it and now I can be proud to have a good strong body that will look good in everything !
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?
A big mirror and walk and practice and practice until you are able to walk firmly and confidently.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?
The right pageant dress need not be the most glamourous dress but a dress that suits your body, suits yourself brings out the best qualities of your appearance. The right dress will make you feel confident and shine like a diamond, in front of the judge’s eyes and they will be wowed by you.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview?
Be truthful and genuine in your answers and courteous in your replies and most of all speak from your heart and always remember to smile.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?
The mistake was from public speaking. I was all prepared and ready but due to my nervousness I was not able to voice out as much as I would like to.
World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest?
For the other girls, some were not paying attention, busy chatting amongst themselves and losing focus.
World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience?
No I do not have any modelling or acting experience but if there is any opportunities for me, I will take it as a challenge and do my best.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2018 as a Queen?
I will continue to volunteer, o spread happiness to the underprivileged people and do charity work through Lions Club of Singapore. I also would like myself to success in my career and at home.
World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?
I would like to be remembered as the beauty queen with the warmest and most sincere smile, who is kind hearted and nice to everyone.
