World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.

My name is Trini Wong and I am from Malaysia. I am 54 years old this year and I am a mother of three sons. I am an entrepreneur and a businesswoman, currently running a company with my husband. I am a director of a construction material and tools trading company. I started my career as an accountant in a construction firm where I eventually discovered my business acumen. After few years of working, I realized I could do more and I was motivated by the dream of creating a better life for my family, so I took the plunge and started my own business. Today, I am the director of a multi-million dollar company. All of these successes spurred me on to give something back to the society and I began my journey of giving to charity and serving people in need via charitable events. I am never one to settle and I believe that everybody has the chance to shine at any age. I entered the beauty pageant to challenge myself to reach greater heights. I am immensely grateful to Ms. Audris Kok for giving me the opportunity to discover another part of myself. This has given me the self-confidence and the ability to shine even more. I believe that success and glory only comes to those that work for it and that is my motto that I always remind myself.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does female empowerment mean to you?

Women’s empowerment to me implies balance or equality: to have the option to have a similar opportunity as others, to settle on your own decisions and have an open door for decisions with no limitations or judgments.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.

As I have only participated in one pageant, I do not have any past history.

World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?

I joined my first pageant to have a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction. Similarly, the excitement I experienced and memories I made there were incomprehensible in worth for broadening my ‘social skyline’ and understanding of people. Through this pageant, I was also able to comfortably reach out to my targets and become a better person.

World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?

Participating in beauty pageants has always been my dream since childhood. I took time to build my career as an entrepreneur before I really went into the beauty field. I want other women out there to be inspired by my growth. Once my business is stable, I decided to compete for this title so I can have a solid background to support my achievements.

World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us

what is it about?

The pageant that I have participated had a more comfortable and simple system. They chose all the married women who have good family background, good image in society, beautiful and confident candidates. They gave training for each and every single thing that we need to do on stage and selected us accordingly. The training was held in their private hall which is less nerve wrecking for the participants. After the training and selection, we were sent for the competition to participate.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?

I was judged on elegance, confidence, charisma and stage presence in the competition. The interview was scored on our capability to express ourselves depending on our age and maturity level. The interview segment was a five minute board discussion or meeting with the judges. We were judged based on our intellect, genuineness, integrity and good phrasing.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.

I have learned a lot of new things such as pageant walking, perfect dressing style, types of makeups that we can put on for different dresses and events. My self-confidence has also increased, I am able to give a speech confidently in front big crowd without any fear.    World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.

Through this beauty pageant platform, a group of contestants went to the orphanage and old folk homes. We helped them by providing food and cleaning their rooms to give them a more comfortable living place. We also joined and organized many charity events to volunteer for activities to help the disabled people around Malaysia. I also introduced my country's heritage to visitors from other countries, for them to get a good view and understanding of our country. I have travelled overseas to do volunteer activities with other contestants from my pageant.

World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?

I believe that I have utilize my title in a very good and helpful way. Like I have answered in my previous question, my fellow contestants and I went to orphanages and old folk homes to help out and also to provide food for them. We helped to clean their rooms to give them a comfortable living place. We also joined and organized many charity events to help disabled people around Malaysia. I am honored to be crowned the winner for the beauty pageants.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements?

As a mother for 3 children, I have already achieved as an entrepreneur in my personal life. I am very proud today that I have won four titles from my beauty pageant which was : Classic Mrs. Malaysia Tourism Queen International 2019 Champion, Mrs. Malaysia Tourism Queen International 2019, Mrs. Popularity and Mrs Malaysia Tourism Queen International 2019 The Best Mrs Kebaya. I am also very proud to announce that the end of this year I will become an ambassador of Mrs. Tourism Beauty pageant.

World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?

It's not just a pretty face that makes a woman stand out from the crowd. Actually, it’s the personality, confidence and appeal that count when it comes to standing out. You will see a lot of women out there who are dazzling, groomed and stylish. However I indicated my knowledge and confidence in speeches to show my strength as a method of standing out from other lovely young ladies out there.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.

Like every other contestant, I didn’t expect that I would be the winner of Classic Mrs. Malaysia Tourism Queen International 2019. The moment our hosts announced my name, I was shocked but couldn’t show that feeling on my face. I walked near the crown with a big smile on my face. The moment I was crowned with the title of Classic Mrs. Malaysia Tourism Queen International 2019, I had the best feeling in the world and was really very proud of myself.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?

I think a beauty queen isn't a queen for herself, being a queen is a role of service. So many people admire you. You have such an impact that you can truly do good, and I feel like I have already proven to myself that by being a beauty queen, you can make a difference with volunteer activities, charity and fund donation for disabled families.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?

Competing in this pageant helped me pursue a mission I believe in. Life is tied in with discovering why you are here and how you can have a positive effect in the world. Competing in this pageant helped me learn ways to share what I am enthusiastic about and change lives all the while. Secondly this competition has led me to lead a healthy lifestyle. Competing in this pageant got me to eat healthy, work out and get my regular sleep which will help us live a longer and more enjoyable life. Thirdly it helped me gain self-confidence. Whether it be learning how to walk in high heels, speak in front of a crowd or think on your feet, pageants helped to grow and learn more about myself and what I’m truly capable of.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your self-esteem and body image?

I have learned to be more confident when communicating with new people, talk or even give a speech without any fear in front of a big crowd. By improving my dressing sense, body language and walking style, I felt more confident and started to love myself more. My changes in my makeup style, body language and dressing sense makes me feel that I have improved my body image among other beauties out there.

World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it

feel?

I feel stronger and confident walking in society as one of the beauty queens going from being a normal individual to almost a well-known woman in this industry was not possible without my family and friends. I’m so happy that I’m being an inspiration to most of the married women out there. I am giving them belief and confidence to go and chase their dreams. I have proved to most of the women out there that age and marital status is actually not a big barrier to achieve our dreams.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over? My strategies to win the judges over is very clear and simple. The first is not being fake or phony, but I do ‘spice up’ my smile and attitude. I make myself very approachable, that means, make people want to talk to me. I do that by smiling and speaking to everyone I see. This helps me to loosen up even before I get on stage. I always make direct eye contact with the judges. I believe that this shows them that I’m confident and not afraid to look at them. When I get on stage in front of the judges and an audience, it is my time to shine and I do my pageant walk to show my confidence more to judges.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition?

Firstly, I didn’t go on an extreme diet, but physical fitness is usually considered in beauty pageants. I ate plenty of vegetables, fruits, and grains daily with sufficient water intake to maintain my physical fitness. I searched on Google and prepared what the common questions that the judges would ask were and I was aware that the judges would almost certainly throw unexpected questions my way, but there are some questions that can be expected during the interview process which I can give the best answer. I have prepared a list of questions and answers before the competition to make sure I was able to handle the situation smoothly. I also learned the modeling skills and talents from my mentor before the competition. There were plenty of things that needed to be prepared from head to toe before the competition and I have explained the main preparation above.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?

We can watch YouTube videos to get to know the way of pageant walking. But it’s a must to have an expert who can watch you and help you discover those weird pauses and hesitations, then point you to a method that would help you overcome those hiccups. Whatever the cost of hiring a walking coach is, the return on the investment will be worth it.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?

When you are wearing the right gown, it will dramatically improve your appearance and the judges will surely see that improvement. When you know what you need to hide, maybe a bulging tummy or something else, you can ask for help from stylists on what kind of gown can do that. Some colours may also not complement your skin tone, so it would be better make sure you choose a colour that would look good on you. Remembering that you can convey your personality through your dress is very important. You can ask ideas from your stylist before choosing a right gown.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview?

Beauty pageants are all about displaying the best aspects of yourself. You want the judges to see how great you look, interview, and perform your talent. As I have explained in question number 18, the judges will almost certainly throw unexpected questions your way, but there are some questions that can be expected during the interview process. For example, you can watch past pageants to get an idea of how the interview would go. You can also ask former contestants what the interview process was like. Make sure to keep up with the news before the pageant to stay well-informed by keeping a notebook with everything you’ve learned.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you

wish you could redo and fix it?

I have indirectly did only one mistake. While we were having individual performances, I had my mentor partnered up with me to dance on stage. Since my mentor and I wore the same costumes and I made the mistake to dance behind my mentor, the judges were confused as to who the contestant was. This mistake caused to me lose points in the category. I should have noticed my position earlier so I could have shown my talent more on stage.

World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest?

I noticed few contestants were not serious about the competition. Some girls came late to all the training sections, sleep while they conducted makeup tutorials and gossiping a lot about other contestants without that person’s knowledge which is not a good character to have. World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience?

No, I do not. I have only experienced a red carpet walk.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2020 as a Queen?

As I mentioned earlier, I will be named an ambassador of Beauty pageant on 2020. I will focus and spend more time on doing and organizing volunteer activities and charity. I will also travel overseas to help the disabled families and old folk homes there as well as Malaysia.

World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

I am planning to open an orphanage by organizing many charity events to collect sufficient funds for the opening. I hope I could execute this plan as soon as possible. I believe this is the legacy that I would want to leave behind which will be remembered by many good souls..
