World Class Models Magazine: Please tell us about yourself.

My beloved father had always instilled in both my brother and myself, that education is key to our future. Therefore we were fortunate to have our education in Singapore and Australia. My mother, a stay at home Mom, is also the key to our good education. She taught us English and Mandarin and supervised our homework. Graduated from Monash University with a Masters degree in IT, I had worked in Singapore and Australia. I will always be grateful to my parents.

When I met my husband, I was already in my thirties and so settling down and having children was my top priority. As a mother of twins aged 7, I represented Malaysia and competed as Mrs Malaysia International 2016 in TKS Mrs International beauty pageant in Singapore. TKS Mrs International was founded in 2006 by Ms Beverly Tan, a trained Psychologist who worked closely with children and their mothers for many years as a teacher.

The concept of the pageant is to celebrate the 3Ms Marriage, Maturity and Motherhood. I am fortunate to have met Ms Beverly during the pageant and since then we became good friends. Of course not forgetting the other international contestants who became my close friends.

After winning Mrs ASEAN in November 2016, opportunities to travel abroad became available. I was invited to attend events as judge in international beauty pageants and modelling and earned multiple awards overseas. I was living in the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, until late last year, when my family moved to Australia.

World Class Models Magazine:  Please tell us about your modeling experience.

(Brief list and description of your achievements, Covers, runways, commercial etc...)

Being a beauty queen I have had experience modeling on stage. Before becoming Mrs Malaysia International in 2016, I attended Amber Chia Academy. It is a modeling school founded by Malaysia's top International Supermodel. Amber even gave me personal tips on my catwalk on stage. I had the opportunity to model for her on the runway during the annual graduation fashion show.

Derek's World Class magazines has a huge line of different specialties. I was featured as cover girl 4 times. The first was World Class Beauty Queens April 2018 , World Class Asia Fashion September 2018,  World Class Malaysia Queens October 2018, and World Class Asia Queens November 2018.

Since winning Mrs ASEAN, I had the opportunity to model in Malaysia and overseas. Here is a list of my modeling experience.

World Class Models Magazine: How were you discovered?

I was discovered after winning Mrs ASEAN in November 2016. Doors were opened as to what I can do with my new title. Opportunities came mostly from Bangkok where I was invited by my fellow beauty queen TKS Mrs International from Thailand, Kanthicha Chimsiri, to accomplish several charity projects there. Following the charities, I was awarded World Top Award and during the ceremony I walked my first international runway in Bangkok.

Ms Beverly Tan introduced me to Dato Kee Hua Chee who was a reporter in Malaysia's The STAR newsapaper and a social media fashion blogger at present. My first featured story was written in his Blog since winning Mrs ASEAN. He invited me to many local exclusive events including STYLO Mercedes Benze Fashion Week 2017. That was when I knew STYLO owner Datuk Nancy Yeoh and her 15 year old son Alex who is a promising and outstanding artist. I also had the opportunity to meet with famous designers in the fashion industry, including Jimmy Choo. Yes the infamous Jimmy Choo who was famous for his shoes. He even designed a pair of shoes for Princess Diana back then.

World Class Models Magazine: What made you decide to become a model?

When I had the opportunity to be a cover girl in World Class Beauty Queens Magazine April Issue, it pretty much made me decide to be a model. Fashion sense has always been on my agenda. Of course since winning TKS Mrs Asean, I had been invited to a number of fashion shows and so the interest grew fondly. I am thankful for this opportunity.

After being selected to become the Asia Ambassador of World Class Beauty Queens magazine, I was even more certain of the decision to become a model. I am grateful to Derek , the owner and founder of World Class brand, for the opportunities he provided.

World Class Models Magazine:  What is your favorite style of modeling and why?

My favourite style of modeling is editorial. After being a cover girl in 4 magazines, I must say it's my favourite style. The first was World Class Beauty Queens April 2018 , World Class Asia Fashion September 2018,  World Class Malaysia Queens October 2018, and World Class Asia Queens November 2018.

Being on the runway is also exciting but it can be stressful too. A fashion show involves many parties including organiser, choreographer, models, hair and makeup artists and other assistants. If someone is late, it will delay the whole show. Before walking onto a runway, I always worry about tripping and falling down in front of everyone. Afterall it's a live show and there are no second chances.

Editorial on the other hand is more relaxed because most photoshoots include only the photographer and makeup artist. I can express myself freely and so far I enjoyed the experience.

World Class Models Magazine: Who's your mother agency and why did you choose them. Or why do you freelance?

Freelance modeling would be my first choice because as a mother of growing children, it is easier for me to plan my time and schedule properly without neglecting their needs.

Having won the international title of Mrs ASEAN in Singapore, many business prospectors approached me to promote their products. Ranging from beauty products and services to designer gowns and shoes. I suppose I am lucky in the sense that I have the contacts of people in the beauty and fashion industry. Most will contact me directly for opening celebrations events and fashion shows etc. I like the freedom to choose and select the jobs that I can do.

World Class Models Magazine:  Which designers did you have a chance to model for?

(List them, if there are any fun stories behind how you scored those jobs share it, entertain us)

I have the chance to model for quite a number of designers and they are listed as follows.

Moments Shoes by Lydia Loo from Malaysia. Her tailor made shoes can be used for weddings, formal, office and everyday wear. She gave me formal shoes suitable for formal and runway and they are my favourite because I have been wearing for every fashion show since 2016. During TKS Mrs International pageant, Lydia designed a pair of comfortable heels to match all my gowns. Standing on stage for hours can be excruciating for the feet. I can say wearing her shoes was one of the leading factors to wining Mrs Asean 2016. The shoes that I am wearing in this model issue are also from Lydia's designs.

Keith Kee of Keith Kee Couture, a famous Malaysian designer from Penang. I was featured in World Class Asia Fashion magazine as Covergirl, September 2018.

Amelia Creations by Amelia Lee from Malaysia. At the age of 10, Amelia became the youngest designer of Malaysia and she is also featured in the same issue in World Class Asia Fashion magazine.

I mentioned earlier I knew some people from Ms Beverly and that included Datin Maylene Ong who happened to be TKS Mrs ASEAN 2012. It is through her StyleIcon Prestige Club that I had more opportunities to model for other local designers. With the collaboration of STYLO's owner Datuk Nancy Yeoh and StyleIcon Prestige Club, I was among 12 female models chosen as STYLO Ambassadors of 2018.

There was a press conference in Kuala Lumpur where Datuk Nancy Yeoh's husband, Mr Rolv Reissiger was the host and founder of the first STYLO Gentlemen's Weekend 2018. The concept of Gentlemen's Weekend was to showcase luxury motor vehicles like rolls royce, ferrari, yachts and vintage cars. The highlight of the press conference was a Rolls Royce where 12 of us had to model around the vehicle wearing Zang Toi designer from Malaysia. It was a challenge but we got through it!

During the STYLO Gentlemen's Weekend, we flew to Johor Bahru, another state of Malaysia. I was not feeling well, but the show must go on. We had to model 2 gowns by Mr Ho Kok Loong of The ModHouse Malaysia. The first was a kebaya, a Malaysian traditional dress, and the latter an oriental gown. It was an outdoor runway at night and we didn't have much time to rehearse due to the wet weather. Again, another challenge because I was not feeling 100%, down with a bad cold, but I made it. Wished I was not sick during the show but things are not always smooth sailing but I need to stay professional just like any other jobs.

Another chance for me to model was at the Annual Dinner 2019 of Style Icon Prestige Club. Exclusive to members only, a fashion show is a must. I wore a designed contemporary purple organza layers top combined with sheer french lace bottom designed by Farel Mikhail. A Malaysian designer, Farel Mikhail won the Uprising Fashion Designer of the Year Award in 2018. Together with his marketing partner, Jonathan Kok, they made headlines in many fashion events including Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, Islamic Fashion Festival and even Aidilfitri Fashion Week which Farel founded in 2017.

During the STYLO International Fashion Week, October 2019, I walked for 2 designers. I wore a 2 piece Kebaya, a traditional Malay dress, by Ben Ariffin of Fin Art Enterprise Malaysia. The other couture I wore was a dazzling evening gown with a cape designed by Sarene Fu, a fashion designer from Taiwan. Sarene won the Outstanding Luxury Fashion Designer 2019 in Cannes Film Festival.

Based in Pattaya, Chavari Wareebo is a promising Thai fashion designer who used to be a runway model. Inspired by the villagers from her hometown, Chavari designed a collection for the Siam Fashion Show 2019. I wore a long sleeve contemporary knee length dress topped with a villager's hat to symbolize the modern office look in hot weather like Asia.

During VIE Fashion Week 2019 in Dubai, I had the chance to model for 8 award winning international designers. They are namely Pimjutha Purvis of Hilltribe House from northern Thailand, Bow Duangrruethai from Bangkok, Chirawan Lewis of JAL UK from London, Alex Pike from Wales, Idris Jonas Ottensen from Paris, Stefan Djokovic Couture from Serbia, Negruta Eugenia from Moldova in Europe and Sushma Nair from India.

World Class Models Magazine: Which designer was your favorite and why?

Mr Ho Kok Loong of The ModHouse in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Mr Ho is one of my favorite designers because he is a man of visions.  I have already modeled for his couture in several occasions, namely the STYLO Gentlemen's Weekend Fashion Show 2018 and during the StyleIcon Prestige Club Anniversary Fashion Show 2019. During the Cannes Short Film Awards, Mr Ho and his team clinched the title for Most Outstanding Fashion Stylist Award.  Then in October 2019, I had the chance to model for Mr Ho during the CHT Gala Dinner held in Sofitel Melbourne. I had the chance to wear 2 designs from his Oriental Gothic collections.

The ModHouse in Kuala Lumpur is founded by Mr Ho where a variety of designs are showcased. Ranging from bridal and evening gown couture to everyday office wear. Mr Ho is also the founder and lead designer of Wardrobe Solutionz where customers can either rent or buy designer clothes for work. Wardrobe Solutionz offers both men and women a choice to wear different designer outfits with a touch of elegance.

In my opinion, The ModHouse serves as a one stop for all purpose designer clothing store.  And this is why Mr Ho is my favourite designer. You can find more about his Wardrobe Solutionz from Facebook Wardrobesolutionz.

The other favourite designer is Bow Duangrruethai from Thailand. She is a fashion designer and founder of Enrique Thailand in Bangkok. During VIE Fashion Week 2019 in Dubai, Bow won the Best Royal Designer Award. Between March to May 2019 I pariticipated in a national social influencer competition in Malaysia. Voting from the public won me the Top 3 Best Influencer Award.

During my preparation for the competition to win votes, I received a call from Bow to offer me to walk in her Royal collection. Of course I was thrilled and accepted without pause! It was a lifetime opportunity! Dubai has the biggest and longest runway I have ever seen. Bow designed a collection of couture gowns with Royal Thai silk. Imagine wearing evening gowns in traditional Thai silk, I felt glamorous and comfortable.

World Class Models Magazine: Which fashion show was your favorite and why?

VIE Fashion Week in Dubai, June 2019

Founded by fashion designer couple Akhil and Aiswarya, VIE Fashion Week has the vision to bring global fashion and lifestyle on to a single platform. Known for the biggest runway show in the MiddleEast, many designers flew to Dubai from different continents. I had the pleasure to be offered by Thai fashion designer Bow Duangrruethai to model for her. I would also have the opportunity to model for other designers there.

By the end of the fashion show I had modeled for 8 international fashion designers. They are namely Pimjutha Purvis of Hilltribe House from northern Thailand, Bow Duangrruethai from Bangkok, Chirawan Lewis of JAL UK from London, Alex Pike from Wales, Idris Jonas Ottensen from Paris, Stefan Djokovic from Serbia, Negruta Eugenia from Moldova in Europe and Sushma Nair from India.

One unique creation I wore was a white leather gown with a designer headpiece by Chirawan Lewis. It was a one of a kind because I had to be dressed by the makeup artist and manager Ladawan Phengprakhon. I had to express the unique look accordingly and friends commented that I looked so cool and mysterious after it was posted on Instagram. Chirawan is a Thai fashion designer and founder of JAL UK based in London. She was awarded the Best International Designer 2019 in Dubai.

VIE Fashion Week gave me the opportunity to experience different cultures through the beautiful creations from each designer. I love travelling but to have global designers on one platform gave me a chance to boost my interest for fashion and modeling.

My other favorite show was wearing the Oriental Gothic collection from The ModHouse in Melbourne. Mr Ho had the opportunity to showcase his designs down under and I gladly accepted his offer to walk in his fashion show during the CHT Annual Awards. I enjoyed wearing his Gothic gowns with a touch of oriental influence. The gowns brought out the inner Gothic feelings in me mostly because Mr Ho allowed me to express myself freely. Mr Ho also took this Gothic oriental collection to Cannes during the Cannes Short Film Awards 2019.

World Class Models Magazine:  What is your biggest success as a model so far?

My biggest success as a model so far is being on the runway as the showstopper for a promising young designer from India. Sushma Nair was awarded the Best Emerging Designer of the year in Dubai, 2019. The highlight of her ALOHA collection was that all models walked out in the dark because the colorful outfits glowed vibrantly.

As the showstopper, I walked out in the dark and like a butterfly opened its wings to reveal the luminous designs. The stage was huge and long and I felt a release of thrilling and mixed emotions. When the lights came back on, the walk with the designer , Sushma, hand in hand on stage made me realise my biggest success. It was a moment I will remember for a long time.

World Class Models Magazine: What is your secret to scoring runway jobs?

Each fashion show coordinates the work of the designer, models, choreographer, hair and makeup artists,  and organiser of the show. This means that punctuality is extremely important. I am always punctual, whether it's for rehearsals or the actual day job. If one model is late, he or she will delay everyone during rehearsals before the show. As many would know, every show must go on, and so if models are late, they will just be eliminated before the show and needless to say no call backs for future shows.

I also make sure my vital statistics stays the same because it is the key to which outfit I wear for the designer. With a healthy vegetarian diet and exercises, I get to keep fit and stay in shape.

World Class Models Magazine: Tell us about your upcoming fashion shows.

Unfortunately at this point in time, I have no upcoming fashion shows because we are all facing the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. I was supposed to be a model during New York Fashion Week in Feburary but it was cancelled due to coronavirus. Hopefully by the end of the year, I might be able to walk for Asia Fashion Week or Australia Fashion Week. Please follow me on my Instagram and Facebook. Watch this space.

World Class Models Magazine: Tell us about some of your favorite photoshoots.

Some of my favourite photoshoots include Covergirl for World Class Beauty Queens April Issue. It was my first covergirl shoot and the goal is to get that cover look fit for a beauty queen. Lots of posing and angles were tested out before the final print look was chosen. It took a while but the results were rewarding. Thanks to Osa and Shay from 512Studio.

All models need a portfolio with different styling images. Susu Ngo brought out the best in me since my beauty competition in 2016. He is one of the winning factors that helped me clinched the Mrs Asean title. For my portfolio photoshoot, Susu completed 4 images. From clean look to formal and glamour to avant garde. He is the best in Malaysia and during the Cannes Short Film Awards, Susu and Mr Ho from THE MODHOUSE won the Outstanding Fashion Style Award 2019.

Another time was in Myanmar as Mrs Asean where I had to do a photoshoot with 6 beauty queens for TKS Mrs Myanmar International 2017. It was my favorite because everyone were so nice and polite. The fact that I don't speak their language became an advantage but the organisers of the pageant are such lovely hosts. Although there were about 10 of us in the photoshoot, time taken was swift and pleasant. I had so much fun and respect for Myanmar people because they are kind, warm and efficient!

Photoshoot in Thailand is also one of my favorite. I am sure everyone knows that Thais are very friendly hosts. Every time I depart Bangkok, I will miss her more and vow to return every opportunity I get. Photoshoots are effortless! Makeup is usually quite over the top but results are the best!

World Class Models Magazine: What is your secret to finding the right photographers to work with and why?

Finding the right photographer is not easy especially if it is the first time I meet him or her. The secret is to get to know the photographer who takes the best angle and photographs of myself. So during the first meet, I would not be able to know if he or she is the right one for me until I see photographs of me.

In Malaysia, I was introduced to Brian Lee by Ms Beverly Tan in 2016. Brian was at the press conference when Ms Beverly announced that I would be representing Malaysia to take part in her TKS pageant in Singapore. Brian is the founder of LIKE Media, a social media platform for all events. Brian is also a multi awarded entrepreneur, his latest achievement is Award of Outstanding PR and Social Media 2019 presented to him by the Minister of Entrepreneur Development of Malaysia. I enjoy working with Brian and his team of photographers namely Are Mint, Lionel Lee and Eric Lee. Brian is responsible and I find him reliable.

Other photographers I worked with include Mandy Lee of M Photography production, Kelvin Sing, Foong Chee, founder of Foong Chee Facepics and Benggy Yeong. They produced excellent photos and fabulous candid shots behind the scenes at the STYLO Gentlemen's Weekend Fashion Show 2018.

With my cover girl photoshoots of World Class Beauty Queens, 512Studio was my first choice. Osa and Shay are partners and founder of 512Studio in Kuala Lumpur. Osa is the hair and makeup artist and Shay is the photographer. I met them in 2017 and felt comfortable working with them since. I like it when Shay gives me suggestions how to pose during the photoshooots. This makes the whole process a smooth ride.

On the other hand when I am overseas in a foreign land and I don't know any of the photographers, it would be good to introduce myself to each photographer. When I was in Dubai for the fashion show, I had the chance to know Peter John Cabrera Maghari. He is a professional photographer based in Dubai. One of the photographs he took of me in the runway turned out to be one of the most liked photograph on my Instagram and Facebook! That photo is also featured in this magazine.

World Class Models Magazine: How do you prepare for a photoshoot?

I prepare for a photoshoot by keeping fit and healthy. Photoshoots usually last for the entire day because it includes hair and makeup and changing to a few outfits. Feeling 100% is definitely a must because it will make sure the day of photography runs smoothly.

Personal grooming is also a must because looking the best is the criteria for any photoshoot. It is my favorite part of preparation before a shoot because I will go for a full body pamper package including body scrub and massage. Most importantly I take the 3 steps of skincare seriously. Cleansing, toning and moisturising are the 3 steps. This is to make sure my skin glows radiantly during photoshoot.

World Class Models Magazine: Tell us about your publishing success so for.

With the help of Derek, owner of World Class brand, I was featured as Cover girl in the following magazines, World Class Beauty Queens magazine, World Class Asia Fashion magazine, World Class Asia Queens and World Class Malaysia Queens Issues.

You can also find my work and writing in Exquisite International magazine. Formerly known as Manila Up International magazine, Sonia D Bermejo offered me the opportunity to write about some of the colorful events I experienced in Malaysia and Asia.

World Class Models Magazine: Any modeling tips for up and coming models?

I would advise them to be polite and punctual at all times. If you have the right attitude, people will start contacting you for more work. This is how you build your portfolio.

I would encourage beginners to attend a modeling school like Amber Chia Academy. A beauty and modeling academy, ACA is founded by Amber Chia who is the top Supermodel in Malaysia. Beginners from other countries can choose a recognized modeling school in your area.

When I started my catwalk lessons in ACA, I had the chance to learn and work with other experienced models. I also met my best friend, Eisya Kamaludin from the academy. Together we would go casting for modeling jobs. It made the beginning period of my modeling experience more enjoyable. Today Eisya is an entrepreneur and founder of EE Shopping, an online business for women fashion clothing. Very often beginners would feel nervous and overwhelmed in the modeling world. If there is a friend, you can look out for each other.

Another modeling tip is to practise your catwalk everyday. In order to do that, it is always wise to invest in a good pair of heels that you are comfortable with. My choice is Moments Shoes by Lydia Loo.

Keeping fit and healthy is also vital because taking shortcuts by not eating right or not eating at all will only harm your body in the long run. A good skincare regime including cleansing the face is necessary because too much makeup will harm the skin in the long run.

World Class Models Magazine: Any video commercial or film experience?

As Mrs Asean, I did several commercial modeling for a variety of beauty skincare products and beauty pageants in Malaysia and overseas. When I was in Bangkok for the Earth Top Awards 2018, I was engaged by a beauty company to promote their products and services. Everything was in Thai language but it was a wonderful experience.

Later that year, I was featured together with TKS Mrs International 2016 and Mrs SouthEast Asia 2016 in a commercial promoting a beauty pageant Mrs Thailand Noble Queen held in Hua Hin, Thailand. Then in 2019, I was in a commercial advertisement for ShopBack and a local financial centre in Malaysia.

My latest film experience was shooting for an international charity show in Bangkok, August  2019. Together with other international beauty queens, we had to travel to TV and radio stations to promote the charity show. The film crew followed us and it was tiring but meaningful and rewarding. We raised funds for an Orphanage with special needs.

World Class Models Magazine: Do you volunteer for any cause?

As a beauty queen, Mrs ASEAN, I have shared my compassion with other philanthropists and raised funds for old folk homes in Malaysia and orphanages in Thailand and Philippines. My platform is global aging so wherever I am I will try to visit the aged care homes and volunteer my time with them. I believe the mental health of aged care is not to be neglected because most children are too busy to visit their parents.

By just saying hello and listening to what they have to say will give them lots of joy in a day.

Whenever I bring my children to visit the old folks, you can see their eyes lit up. Regular visits will lift their spirits and provide quality life in them. I encourage everyone to visit aged care homes and say hello. During this pandemic coronavirus, we may not be able to visit them in person but we can send drawings or greeting cards to lift their spirits.

World Class Models Magazine: What is your personal fashion style?

My personal fashion style depends on the occasion. I like to dress up for various themes. However my personal favourite is wearing a colorful A-line dress with a pair of sunglasses and heels. Of course not forgetting a matching handbag. Colors are important to me because I love bright colors. It determines my mood of the day. That is why I have handbags with different colors to match what I wear.

World Class Models Magazine: What is your secret to success.

I consider myself very fortunate to be amongst people who have helped me in this industry. The contacts I know made me feel thankful and grateful for. When a fashion designer approaches me to model for them either on the runways or magazines, I feel that all my hard work has been appreciated.

My hard work included keeping fit and healthy at all times. However there are times when I get sick but my motto is to persevere and try my best to complete the job. Punctuality and good attitude towards every job is also on my agenda. I am always punctual and most of the times turn up early to new places.

World Class Models Magazine: What would you like to accomplish as a model in 2020.

2020 is currently hit with the COVID-19 pandemic and the rest of the year is faced with uncertainty. My heart goes out to all those who lost their dear ones.

Hopefully by the end of 2020, everything will be resumed to normal. Of course I would like to model on the runway in 2020. in the meantime, I pray that all this will be over soon. Please follow my Instagram and Facebook.

World Class Models Magazine: What would be your ultimate modeling dream job?

My ultimate modeling dream job is to travel around the globe and do photoshoots in the landmarks of each country. The photographs from these photoshoots will then be displayed  on billboards in major cities like New York, Paris, Beijing, London and other parts of the world. It will be an experience of a lifetime.

World Class Models Magazine: What is your overall modeling goal?

My overall modeling goal is to be able to continue modeling and be on the runway for a long time. Travelling to different parts of the world to model is truly rewarding because I love to meet and experience different cultures.  Modeling has brought me much joy and if jobs are offered to me, I will continue to do it.

World Class Models Magazine: What legacy as a model would you like to leave behind?

I would like to create and model my own fashion designs one day. It will either be fashion couture or beauty skincare products. With the proceeds, I would like to help the aged care and orphanages by doing more charity projects.

I would also like to be able to model on the runway regardless of age. A role model for the future generation that modeling need not be restricted by age.
