World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.

I was born in the north of Portugal, but I moved to the UK when I was 8 years old. I now live in London and I am currently an A Level student studying Law, Politics and English Literature. I aspire to pursue a career as a Judge as well as a part-time model/actress.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.

I started competing in 2016, and I have won 2 national titles and 3 regional titles. I love being a part of the pageant community and I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience within it. We are all a big sisterhood and we help each other out when we can; it’s fantastic!

World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?

I first started competing in pageants mostly because I was curious if their portrayal on television was reflective of what they were actually like (it wasn’t by the way). I don’t believe in judging a book by its cover, so I decided to find out myself and I’m glad I did. I also had already modelled beforehand, so it made sense.

World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?

I chose to compete for my current title because I identify with the pageant’s slogan: ‘because beauty is more than skin deep!’ I wholeheartedly agree with this because physical looks will eventually fade but your personality is permanent.

World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?

Miss Beauty UK is a national not for profit system, so all funds received go straight back into the community. This is a system that represents mental health and hardship, and wants all contestants and Queens grow internally with their confidence and self-esteem. Miss Beauty UK welcomes contestants of all shapes and sizes, as well as contestants will all sorts of disabilities and backgrounds.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?

Before the grand finals, finalists are mainly judged on the work that they complete online (such as participating in awareness days), through physical appearances, through the charity money they manage to raise, and through a video interview.

During the finals, the finalists are judged on the opening round, eco wear round and evening wear round.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.

The competition was phenomenal! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, I had a really great time. Throughout the day I was made to feel comfortable and at ease; the director was extremely supportive and worked extremely hard to ensure the day went well.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.

My platform is The Fostering Network, which is the UK’s leading fostering charity and membership organisation, bringing together everyone who is involved in the lives of fostered children to make foster care the best it can be. Their mission is to support those who foster, improve opportunities for fostered children and young people and provide expert guidance to all fostering services.

World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?

I have done many appearances, both physically and in online campaigns. I am especially proud to have been able to make a few appearances abroad at New York Fashion Week in the USA and in local events in Portugal.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements?

I’m very proud to have been awarded 2 debating qualifications, which I worked so hard for over 2 years to get! I am also incredibly proud to have finished secondary school with all A*-B grades, including qualifications in 3 languages.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on-stage strategy to win the judges over?

I know this has been said over and over again, but the most important thing to win the judges over is to simply be yourself! The judges can clearly see if you’re trying to act like someone you’re not, so it’s important to just be the best version of yourself possible and let your personality shine through!

World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?

All the girls I competed against were absolutely beautiful inside and out! We had all worked so hard to get the title and we all deserved it. I think what made me stand out was my positive attitude because I feel like that shined through on stage. I was also so genuinely happy to be competing and I think that showed in my posture and facial expressions.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.

I really couldn’t believe it! I was so shocked that I nearly started clapping because I actually thought that my runner-up had won! When I finally processed the information my jaw dropped, I started shaking and I looked at my family who were in the audience watching me. It was truly a moment I will never forget.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?

Being a Beauty Queen is all about being a role model to younger generations who follow my journey through social media and in real life. It’s about promoting body positivity and teaching others that true beauty comes from within. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and no one should say otherwise!

World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?

Competing in pageants massively increased my confidence as well as my public speaking skills. It was definitely one of the reasons as to why I managed to get such high grades in my debating exams, as it helped me to get used to speaking in front of large audiences and to be clear about what I say.

World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?

It feels incredible to know that there are girls out there who look at the work I do and learn from it, but it’s also a huge responsibility which I am grateful to have. Before I post something, I always try to make sure that it’s appropriate to be seen by all of my followers, but that it’s also educational and shows my personality and opinions about relevant issues.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?

Practice is key! My walk is by no means perfect, but before every pageant I compete in I try to practice around my house as much as I can.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?

The tip for choosing the right pageant dress is confidence! The judges and the audience are able to see when a contestant feels confident and beautiful in their gown. As long as you truly love the dress you choose and it shows off who you are as a person, the judges will hopefully love it just as much as you do!

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview?

I know I’ve said this quite often throughout the interview but it’s true; just be yourself and show the judges who you truly are. Whatever you do, do not be fake! The judges can see straight through someone who is trying to be someone they’re not.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition?

To prepare for my competition, I got out into my community as much as I could and made as many appearances as I could. I also raised some money for charity and ensured I put the evidence of my work on my online page.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?

You live and you learn, and making mistakes and learning from them is what’s truly important. There have been times when I wished I had posed in front of the judges for a longer period of time, but I learn from my mistakes. No one is perfect but mistakes are what make us human.

World Class Beauty Queens: Any modelling or acting experience?

I have been modelling since I was 6 years old (including in New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week) and I have a drama qualification.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2019 as a Queen?

I plan to keep doing appearances and raising awareness for the Miss Beauty UK system until I hand over my title at the beginning of May. I try to make myself available when other people want me to be at their event, so we’ll see what surprises still await me.

World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

I want to be remembered for my dedication and for my honesty. I try my hardest to be a good titleholder and a good representative for the system, and I want every single future titleholder and contestant to be able to do the same!
