World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.
I have been married for 18 years and a mother to a 17 years old daughter. I am a Senior Account Manager in a foreign bank and has been in this industry for 19 years. I am out-going and independent, with a great passion for travel as well as food. I possess a positive attitude, dedication, and a keen interest in learning new things. Being able to multi-task and maintain professionalism while working under pressure are also my strengths. My ability to build rapport with customers paired with my strong communication skills, has enabled me to excel in my professional career.
When I was 22 and heavily pregnant with Qistina, I discovered the world of beauty and this really sparked up my interest in makeup and made me eager to try out different products and experiment with makeup more.
I finally decided that it was time to start doing instead of dreaming. I looked through a lot of different courses, but none of them quite fitted my needs. When I discovered Top To Toe Academy, I realised it was the perfect course for me to work around my schedule and to allow me to move along at my own pace! It turns out when you’re studying something you’re passionate about it doesn’t really feel like studying at all!
After completing the International Diploma in Makeup Artistry, I pursue my dream of being my own boss as a freelance makeup artist (but still keeping my current Banking job) One area that I’m pretty certain I want to go into is bridal makeup. I love the idea of being a small part of someone’s special day and ensure that I secured at least 1 job per month as a start.
Many asked what it is that makes me want to be a makeup artist and there are so many reasons! To me, makeup is a creative outlet. I love playing around with different colours and experimenting with different looks. I love how makeup can accentuate your natural features but also that it can transform you into looking like a completely different person! As much as I love doing my own makeup, I find just as much joy in doing for other. Seeing a happy client’s face after you’ve done their makeup and the confidence that comes with that is one of the most uplifting things!
Even though I'm really busy, there will usually always be that one part of the day where I’m not doing anything. So I dedicate that time to working out. It makes me feel more productive and healthier. I also give myself the goal of being active at least every other day.
I love Dance Fitness and always wanted to try something that would be a little more cardio intensive. Zumba & Salsation was the perfect match. I fell in love with it instantaneously
I got myself certified to teach Zumba & Salsation and it’s been 4 years since I start teaching. I have at least 200 students under my care and most of my classes are in the evening on weekdays and morning classes for weekends.

World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?
Lumiere was established in 2002 as a beauty company, but as its founder and managing director Justina Quek started getting more and more involved in the planning of beauty pageants, she decided to focus solely on them in 2013.

All I really remember was seeing my 16 years old daughter, walking towards me with a smiles and a bouquet of flowers desperately making her way to the stage with a grin from ear to ear. That little memory is the best way to describe what it felt like to win my first pageant.

Competing in pageants helps me to gain self confidence. Whether it’s learning how to walk in high heels or speak in front of a crowd. The pageants help me stretch, grow and learn more about myself and what I’m truly capable of.
I make a life long friends and relationships. I still keep in touch with some amazing people from the pageant from the current as well as the previous years. They have helped me in networking, coaching and just being sweet friends through life’s journey.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your selfesteem and body image?
As a first timer, I feel nervous about stepping on stage. However, I overcome my nerves and develop a greater sense of confidence. I stop comparing myself with others and start surrounding myself with positive people

Walking tall with your shoulders up and back will make you look taller and leaner. You will score higher when you learn to walk better. With the right pageant walk, the confidence that you show on stage will be crown worthy but without this knowledge at best you will not stand out and at worst you will appear awkward on stage, which can make your judges feel awkward for you.
