World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.
I’m a mom of 3 kids, a fur mom to 3 dogs, 2 rabbits, too many cats.
World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment means to you? Women empowerment means lifting each other up, making sure we always know there is someone there cheering each other one.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history. I started in 2018 at the suggestion of my daughter. I competed for Braxton County Fair and placed 1st. My daughter talked me into one more, Braxton County which is a state pageant and I won. The director then asked me to compete in his tourism pageant. Again, I won. I competed again in 2019 for Braxton County Fair in which I placed 1st again. Competed for Wayne County Fair and won along side my daughter. We then went to tourism nationals, I placed 1st and won Ms Tourism Role Model.
World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant? My daughter Jenna inspired me to do my first pageant. She had been in 4 pageants prior to it and even though she did not even place, she still continued to want to do more pageants. To me that is inspiring.
World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title? I was asked by my Braxton County director asked me to compete since it was his pageant and he knew I could possible be a great representative.
World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about? Tourism is all about community service and helping others. We go to various other pageants to speak about our tourism titles and visit schools to read to elementary school kids or to participate in their activities.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition? Interview, attire, evening gown, possible on stage question. During interview they may ask questions about our daily lives or current events.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition. It’s like an adrenaline rush walking across the stage. Most people enjoy bungee jumping or white water rafting to gain that adrenaline rush but knowing I’ll be walking across a stage for dozens of people to watch me is my kind of rush.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for. My platform is the American Heart Association. My middle child was born with a heart defect. He had open heart surgery at 7 months old. Since birth and hearing the diagnosis of a heart condition, I knew instantly that no matter what I did, I wanted to help others who heard the same words I did. The AHA raises money to help research and prevention.
World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title? I have judged pageants, attended other pageants, my states Christmas tree lighting at the capital, visited Washington DC, traveled around my state visiting various locations to take pictures and post about my journey on my Facebook page
World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements? I don’t think of them as achievements, just experiences that have taught me to be a better person. I live each day to simply be better than I was the day before, to be a better role model for little girls and to be a better parent.
World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls? I am just myself. Yes winning is great, but it’s not about winning, it’s about forming friendships with my competitors. I’ve met some really amazing people on this pageant journey, some of them have become my best friends but I don’t think I really stand out. Everyone is beautiful in their own way.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner. I do believe I cried from shock and excitement. I was spending the year with my daughter as my sister queen. Granted I spend every year with her but we would be attending everything together, not just me watching her do her thing or taking her places
World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen? It’s not about beauty because I feel there are far more beautiful girls out there besides me, it’s about showing girls and women that age is just a number, beauty isn’t everything. Be yourself
World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life? It has made life more fun, it’s like a dream come true. I always dreamed of winning a pageant, never believed I would. I have always had low self esteem, no self confidence and pageantry has helped boost my confidence and increased my self esteem a bit
World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your selfesteem and body image? I still struggle with self esteem issues, I don’t feel I’m as pretty as the other girls I compete with, that is something that I work on every single day.
World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel? Being an inspiration is great. I hope I’m looked at like wow, she stepped out of her comfort zone, it’s possible for everyone.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over? Just be myself, don’t have an attitude like you know you will beat anyone, be humble, know that even if you don’t win, you are still beautiful and an inspiration to anyone with self esteem or confidence issues
World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition? Get everything ready the day before, maybe even a couple days before. Make sure you have the perfect dress for yourself; shoes are comfortable, makeup is appropriate and make sure to get a good nights rest. Eat a good breakfast the day of competition, everyone performs better on a full stomach than an empty one.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk? Take your time walking, smile, let your energy shine on the stage. Leave a good lasting impression on the judges.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress? It has to pop, stand out, be different. And fit just right. Find a color that compliments your figure, your skin tone, your hair color. Something that is going to grab the judges attention and wow the crowd.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview? Just be yourself, it’s ok to be nervous. Don’t talk with your hands. Don’t say umm, avoid stuttering. Know about the festival or pageant system you are competing in. Always maintain eye contact.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it? Walking to fast on stage. I get nervous and end up walking way to fast. My first pageant, I wore shoes that were a little slick so as I went to stop to pose, my heel was sliding so I kept moving.
World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest? Talking to fast, being nervous and stuttering. Giving too short of an answer to an onstage question or giving an answer that isn’t even related to the question. Not knowing about the festival or pageant system they are trying to represent.
World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience? No, I do not have any prior modeling or acting experience.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2020 as a Queen? I would love to win Worlds Ms Tourism! I have an appointed tourism title now(Worlds Ms Mid Atlantic Tourism). I want to bring more awareness to my platform, AHA, and to make more people aware that pageantry isn’t just about beauty or being a certain age, anyone can be involved.
World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? To be yourself, to show others you can do anything you set your mind to. Always remember you are beautiful and confident
