World Class Beauty Queens: Hello Julia, thank you for taking the time to Interview with us. Tell us about your title and your system is about.

I am the 2017 Królowa Parady 3 Maja. To translate it, I am the Queen of the Polish Parade. The Polish Parade takes place on a Saturday every year closest to May 3rd. The parade honors Poland’s Constitution which was the first in Europe and second in the World.

World Class Beauty Queens:  What inspired you to do pageants?

Growing up, I always watched Miss USA and Miss America with my family. From a young age I was interested in what the pageant world was all about. I had a couple friends who competed in pageants and they told me great things about it. I was curious and interested in trying something new, so I decided to give pageants a try!

World Class Beauty Queens:  What does it mean to you to represent Polish community here in Chicago through your title?

The first language I learned to speak was Polish. I was raised in a Polish household and growing up my family and I took part in every Polish tradition. Since then I have always been passionate about my heritage and culture. I am already very involved in the Polish Community. I am the Vice President and Treasurer for the UIUC Zagloba Polish Club and I am on the Board of Directors for the Polish Student Leaders Assembly. I am excited to have this title and the chance to take part in even more Polish-related events throughout the Chicago-land area.

World Class Beauty Queens: You were born in Chicago but you are proud to represent your Polish heritage.  Tell us why?

I learned to speak Polish before English, and growing up my family honored every Polish tradition. Growing up in a very Polish household, I learned to value my Polish roots and to be proud of where I come from. This is why I am so proud and excited to be able to represent my Polish heritage through my title.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is your favorite Polish food?

My favorite polish food is “paczki.”

World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you a winner?

I believe that every girl who takes part in a pageant is already a winner. It takes a lot of courage and confidence to get up on a stage and talk in front of a crowd. In my eyes, those who go out of their comfort zone to do that, they are already winning.

World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about your platform and all your achievements.

As the Królowa Parady 3 Maja, my platform is to encourage Polish youth and young adults to continue learning Polish, to be proud of their heritage, and to take part in Polish related events.

Some of my achievements include:

-Being the first person in my family to attend a University. I am a Junior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

-Each semester of college I was named to the Dean’s List which means I am in the top 20% of students based on my GPA.

-I spent a summer as a Marketing and Blogging Intern at Alyce Paris.

-I spent a summer living in NYC as a PR and Communication Intern at FENDI Roma.

-I graduated Polish High School in addition to regular high school. The diploma certified that I completed 1,230 hours of the study of the Polish language, history, and culture.

-I am the Vice President and Treasurer for the UIUC Zagloba Polish Club and I am on the Board of Directors for the Polish Student Leaders Assembly.

-I earned a Diploma at the New York Film Academy for a one-week acting course.

-I competed at the National Level in 2013 with my All-Star cheerleading team called Super All-Stars where we placed fifth place.

World Class Beauty Queens:  To those readers that are unfamiliar with your system tell us what are you being judged on?

The contestants were judges on their introduction, talent, on stage questions, evening gown, and application.

World Class Beauty Queens:  What was the most difficult part of the competition for you?

The most difficult part was dancing in a beautiful, but huge ball gown from one of the sponsors: Laurel Bridal (located in Chicago).

World Class Beauty Queens:  Tell us about your dress and who designed it?

My ball gown was from Laural Bridal, a bridal boutique in Chicago. All of the contestants wore a ball gown from Laurel Bridal to showcase the beautiful gowns the store has. My evening gown was from my favorite dress designer- Alyce Paris.

World Class Beauty Queens: When and where did the pageant took place?

The pageant took place on March 12th at the Lone Tree Manor Banquet Hall.

World Class Beauty Queens: How does it feel to take your first step on stage?

I love the feeling of stepping onto the stage! It clears my mind and I feel relaxed right away.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is your secret technique to connect with judges.

Making eye contact with each judge one by one!

World Class Beauty Queens: How often do you practice your pageant walk?

I like to practice it for fun or anytime I’m wearing an evening gown, so you can say any chance I get.

World Class Beauty Queens: How do you keep your self esteem high.

I remind myself each day about how far I’ve come and about all I’ve accomplished already. I set big goals and I push myself to achieve them. Having big goals and dreams keeps my self esteem high.

World Class Beauty Queens:  How did it feel when the crown touched your head at the crowning?

The moment I heard my name I froze, then realized my name was just called. I thought I was going to cry of happiness but instead I got the biggest smile on my face that still hasn’t gone away! The moment the crown touched my head I realized that my childhood dream of being the Queen of the Polish Parade came true.

World Class Beauty Queens:  What does the crown symbolizes to you?

The crown symbolizes hard work, patience, dedication, and perseverance. It also symbolizes having an even louder voice and another opportunity to make a difference.

World Class Beauty Queens:  What are your plans as a Queen in 2017/2018?

I am planning to take part in the Polish Constitution Day Parade, to attend as many Polish events as I can, to speak to children at Polish Schools, and to work closely with Polish charities.

World Class Beauty Queens: What legacy would you like to leave behind?

I would like people to remember me as the Queen who put a smile on their face. I want to be able to touch people’s lives and share my experiences with them. I want people to remember me as the person who told them to never give up and to always chase after their dreams.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans after your title ends?

After my title ends, I will be the first person from my family to graduate from a University. I hope to travel Europe and Poland for two months and then to start my dream job as a Corporate Social Responsibility Manager.

World Class Beauty Queens:  And the last question.  How did competing in pageants helped your life?

Competing in pageants helped my life because it taught me how to strive to be the best possible version of myself each and every day. It allowed me to gain countless numbers of skills, experiences, and memories that I will have with me throughout my lifetime.
