World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.

Mary Ferlyn Villanueva. Born on September 11, 1976, A doting mother to 3 beautiful kids; Dasha 24, Ashleigh 14, Jayden 11 and a loving wife to a French born Medhi Houas.

My family and friends calls me Beau – translated, it means lover or darling. And true to her moniker, I’m a living testimony of sweetness and caring brought by my being a full blooded Ilongga( from Iloilo a Beautiful city of Love in the south of the Philippines) I am a darling of my family and friends, I am a  gentle and soft-spoken and I have this certain amount of meekness in the way I say things, and this is all the time accompanied with a charming smile. I  go out of my way to make perfect strangers feel at home. I made Australia my second home for the past 19 years.  My second home provides me and my family a comfortable life any mother can wish for my children.  But my passion to help others has transcended to other neglected sector, the Lupus victims. I have committed myself being an active and vital voice for the LUPUS Australia, engaging in educating the federal, state and locally elected officials about the cruel mystery of Lupus. But my constant visits to the Philippines exposed me to the problems outside the comfort of Australia. Women and children who are victims of abuse and violence caused by poverty are often neglected.  My heart bleeds every time I learn stories of women whose voices fall to deaf ears.  This inspired me to start The Beau Livelihood Program

My philosophy in life:  The only purpose of life is to be happy and always, always choose happiness.  Always be a blessing to everyone.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does Women Empowerment means to you?

Women empowerment is all about equipping and allowing women to make life-determining decisions through the different problems in society. It is giving the women an equal opportunity to be the best version of themselves.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.

It started last year 2018 when I got appointed by the Philippine National Director of Mrs Universe Marilou Tolico-Villanueva to represent Philippines for the Mrs Universe 2018 and for the very 1st time in 41 years Philippines hosted the event. 88 empowered women from different countries vying the crown. I got in the top 15 and was given an special award as the Mrs Universe Golden Heart 2018.  And since I am holding a dual citizenship, the Noble Queen of the Universe approach me to represent Australia in the 1st International Advocacy based pageant and got the crown as a Noble Queen Globe 2019.

World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?

My constant visits to the Philippines exposed me and my family to the problems outside the comfort of Australia. We saw women and children who are victims of abuse and violence caused by poverty are often neglected.  My heart bleeds every time I learn the stories of women whose voices fall to deaf ears.  And  that inspired me and promised myself that I will do the best I can to help my fellow countrymen.

World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?

It’s such an honour for me to join the Noble Queen of the Universe 2019 as it is an Advocacy based international pageant and I know that I will be able to continue my advocacy which is Domestic Violence against women and children due to Poverty and help the Victims.

I saw this pageant as an opportunity to widen and spread awareness to the world that Domestic Violence and Poverty really exist and I must step up and help the victims.

World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?

An Advocacy-Based Pageant is not all about then outside appearance but looking deeply within the heart of the candidates. It promotes the idea of how we can help one another to build a better future specially to the less fortunate ones.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?

50%  for your advocacy which is prejudged by the works you have done in the previous years.

50% during the Coronation night for the over-all performance.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.

I would call it a journey of Sisterhood and Advocacy.  Everyone who joined  had fun and I felt like it’s not even a competition. We are bonded with love and respect for one another.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.

Stop Domestic Violence caused by Poverty.  We maximize the potential of women and youth that are victims of abuse and violence caused by poverty. We help them recreate themselves and provide a better future. It requires empowering to break the cycle of poverty through strengthening the opportunities for meaningful and non-exploitative employment and enterprise.

World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?

I do a lot of Outreach programs with my organisation.  Also, TV, Radios and local magazine and newspapers.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements?

Diamond Golden Award- Most Ambassador of Beauty Awards 2019

Australian Golden Sash Award- International Beauty Ambassador 2019

World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?

I make sure that whatever i do or say, it comes from my heart.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.

My family was watching the pageant that night and they are in front of me, they were all so excited and clapping when my name got announced as a winner I was thinking how proud they are.Seeing them happy and cheering for me the whole time is one of the best moments in my life. It’s great to have a family supporting my pageant career and advocacy.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?

Being a Beauty Queen is more than the fancy dresses and shiny accessories. It is having enough life experiences to truly know what I want. I am armed with passion and ability to make things happen. I believe that being able to do my part of being an Advocate Beauty Queen and  Humanitarian requires the capacity to learn, willingness to talk, the heart to listen and the enthusiasm to change what needs to be changed.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?

Competing in pageants gave me another perspective in life. I have realised that being a great mother to your family is not the “finish line” or dead end of being a woman. Pageants have thought me that It is being able to nurture and help other women to become the best version of themselves so they can be a great mother  not just for their family but for the community. And they will spread the same energy you have given them that will result to a “Butterfly effect”. Imagine a world full of empowered and confident women standing up for themselves and giving positive energy to the community.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your self-esteem and body?

Pageants gave me this confidence and credibility to speak for others, to raise awareness, and encourage people to make a change. I think I have become more comfortable in being with the crowd that looks in your inner beauty not just the physical aspects.

World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?

It’s flattering but I see it as a responsibility to be more effective and motivational. Being a role model and an inspiration to others  are some of the responsibilities that comes with the crown. And I’m equipped for this journey.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over?

Be you. Be natural. Let your heart speak.  Always remember that the judges are looking for the Queen who has the best positive aura. What inside your heart will radiate during the competition.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition?

I always make sure that everything is smooth sailing. 2 months before the competition, I have talked to several people that will take care of my wardrobe and talent. 1 month before the competition, I trained in KF Beauty Camp to polish my stage performance (walking & posture).  Aside from the basic requirements, I have mentally and spiritually prepared myself so I can share my authenticity and positivity to everyone in the competition.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?

Get a trainer. It’s good to hear feedbacks from the guru. You must have the passion and discipline in what you are doing so you can achieve better result.  Don’t forget to always think that you are the most beautiful person and be confident about your self.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?

Your dress should compliment everything about you. From your skin color to your body shape.  You should feel good wearing your dress.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview?

Be able to express yourself in the most effective and authentic way. Always let your heart speak.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?

I have this great passion in helping others so I try to check others who need help during the competition. There were times I forgot that I’m not fully prepared and need to go on stage. Next time I’ll help myself first before helping others. Hehe

World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest?

Maybe some girls think of the competition so seriously and not being able to enjoy it. It’s okay that your eyes are on the price but your missing the essence of the pageant.

World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience?

Yes. I did modelling and some commercials before.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2020 as a Queen?

I am currently preparing for the 2020 Ms World International pageant in Miami Florida. It’s a reality pageant that will be aired in 9 countries.  Aside from that, to continue my Advocacy to help the Victims of Domestic Violence against Women and children Due to Poverty.

World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

Life is too short. So do the right things for your self and the world- the Butterfly Effect.  And always be happy, positive and kind.  To God be the Glory I would like to thank my family for supporting me on this journey.
