World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.

I am a 17 year old student attending Portales High School, I am a normal teenager that loves to hang out with my friends. I have a part-time job as a cashier at a local Taco Box Restaurant. I love meeting new people and having friends all over the country!

World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment means to you?

Women empowerment to me means that I am able to be whoever I want to be.  I will have the same opportunities as a male to achieve my goals.  To make my own decision of what I want in life and that my opinion matters!

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.

I did my first pageant at the age of 13 for Miss Outstanding Teen NM where I won the Miss Congeniality award. I did several pageants with Enchanting Miss, winning several awards from Grand Supreme, Prettiest Eyes, Best Smile, and Best Talent.  In 2016 I won the title of Miss Teen Portales Latina where I received awards of Miss Elegant, Teen Fashion Wear,  and at the state pageant I was crowned Miss Teen New Mexico 2016 First Runner Up.  I went on to compete again with the title of Miss Teen Roosevelt County Latina 2018, winning the state title of Miss Teen New Mexico Latina 2018, also receiving awards of Best Model, Best Teen Wear, and Teen People's Choice Award.  In August of 2018 I then went on to the national Pageant to compete for the Title of Miss Teen US Latina, where I was in the top seven!

World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?

I love watching Toddlers and Tiaras and the Miss USA, Miss America pageants and always dreamed in doing pageants.  After asking my parents several times to allow me to do them they finally agreed in putting me in one, and well here I am today living one of my dreams.

World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?

It was a Latina title, and my mom thought it would be a great opportunity for me to showcase my Latin roots and that I would represent it well.  I love where I come from and love to share the passion that I have about my heritage with everyone!

World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?

The mission of Miss New Mexico Latina and Miss Teen New Mexico Latina, is to demonstrate the power of the Latina women who live in New Mexico, by showcasing their beauty, intelligence, and wide culture at a national and world level.  "Not just a Model, but a role Model"

World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?

During competition you are being judged on Interview, Evening gown, Teen Wear/Fitness Wear, Typical Heritage dress, and overall how you present yourself on stage.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.

During competition it is always nerve racking for me, but being up on stage gives me such a high that I feel like a different person.  It is a lot of fun and I get to make many friends from around the state.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.

My platform is based on the Yolanda Acosta Foundation, which is a foundation founded by Brandon Acosta in memory of his mother who lost her battle to breast cancer.  It raises awareness on the importance of breast cancer screenings and self exams.  The Yolanda Acosta Foundation helps women who are battling this terrible disease in any way that they can, that is financially, emotionally, help women with medications, or just plain out helping them feel better about themselves with wigs and make overs. During the holidays the foundation helped over 100 families by making sure that they had everything they needed for their holiday dinners, in hopes on making their holiday a little less stressful.

World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?

As Miss Teen New Mexico Latina 2018 I have had a Toy Drive where we took several wrapped toys to a local school for children who were not going to have a Christmas this year. I decorated a Christmas Table, with the help of my mom, at the Holiday Happenings to help raise money for the Altrusa Women's Club, where they use that money locally to help the community. Myself and the local title holders were involved in Boo at the Zoo, where we helped raise money for the local zoo, by handing out candy during Halloween. I have also done several Fashion Shows for a non-profit organization called Monarch Formals, where they rent evening gowns/dresses to women who can't afford to buy one for their special event, they do this for a donation only. We were involved in the annual Peanut Valley Festival where we sold goodies and decorated paper crown with the kids for a donation, where all proceeds went to the Yolanda Acosta Foundation.  I also have helped the United Way of Eastern New Mexico with monthly food distributions. We also have been involved in several parades throughout the year. I have several other events scheduled for the future, such as a charity dinner for the local hospital, car washes for the foundation, and more fashion shows.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements?

Getting my first job and being able to pay for my own car, and of course winning the title of Miss Teen New Mexico Latina 2018.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over?

Always being personable towards them, introducing yourself, shaking their hand, and on or off stage establishing eye contact and keeping a smile on your face at all times.

World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?

I believe all women/girls are beautiful, you just have to learn how to grow with each and every one of them.  I am always learning from my fellow pageant sisters, and I hope that I also have taught them a thing or two about being themselves, having confidence, and self beauty.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.

I felt great, but at the same time I couldn't believe it.  There were a lot of strong girls, with a lot to offer!  I felt accomplished that all of our hard work had paid off!

World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?

I don't consider myself a beauty queen, I just like to be a role model to all women and especially to all the little girls out there that look up to me.  And show them that anything is possible if you work hard and to always follow their dreams.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?

It helped me by being more confident in front of people, especially public speaking and always being opened to learning more to benefit what I want to achieve.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your self-esteem and body image?

It helped me to be more aware of my health, how I should be eating and staying fit.  But really to me body image doesn't matter because all women are beautiful, what matters is who we are inside.  Every woman is amazing and unique in their own way and that's what makes us beautiful!

World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?

I love it!  Especially all the little girls that look up to me and want to be like me some day.  I love taking pictures with them, giving them pageant advice, or just simply hanging out.  I feel like I have to be a better version of myself so that they can learn from that and have the confidence to achieve anything they want.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?

Always stand with what we like to say "pretty feet", never look down while you are walking on stage, always have eye contact with the judges, and have a smile on your face.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?

I don't think there is a right or wrong pageant dress, you just have to like it and feel beautiful and confident in it.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview?

Say hi to the judges and if possible shake their hand, stand or sit up tall while in the room, eye contact with the judges and always smiling.  There really isn't any right or wrong answers, they just want to learn who you are and what your thought are.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition?

I took several classes to prepare me for competitions, from modeling, runway walk, mock interviews, and public speaking classes.  I got good sleep every night and didn't do anything crazy like change my shampoos or facial soaps because I didn't want to start anything new and then it cause an allergic reaction to where it would affect my appearance or cause me to get sick.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?

During the national competition, all the contestants were back stage freshening up before going back on stage for awards.  I was doing just that when I realized that they were not in the room any more.  I had missed our call to get back on stage, I didn't know what to do, I was so embarrassed and hesitated to just run out.  So what I did was I sneaked up there and kinda just got in the line trying not to make it so noticeable.  I was so embarrassed, my mom had even left the audience to go back there to see what was going on because she thought maybe something was wrong.

World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest?

I think we all make mistakes one way or another.  But being on stage you should always have a smile on your face and have fun with it, show your confidence and just enjoy it!

World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience?

I only have a little modeling experience, what I have learned from a local friend who once taught modeling and pageant participants back in his home town in Mexico.  I also have learned a little from the founder of Monarch Formals and of course our state director.  I am looking into enrolling with a modeling agency soon, hoping to start this summer!

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2019 as a Queen?

I plan to continue to help the Yolanda Acosta Foundation and the community. Start to prepare my self for the next adventure to come.

World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

I would like for the community to know that the Latina women are here to make a difference through community service, education, and that together we can most definitely make a difference in each other's lives.
