My name is Joanna Borov, I was born in Poland. I have always been passionate about fashion so I decided to pursue my dream and I moved to London to study at University of the Arts London. During my years in London I worked as a model at fashion shows and photo sessions. I used to travel a lot for work and pleasure. I am a very positive person, I always try to find beauty in every moment and I am grateful for everything. I love animals and I support many charities. World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment means to you? I agree with Beyonce when she said that the most alluring thing that a woman can have is confidence. Women should support each other in pursuing their dreams. World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history. My first pageant was Miss Motors. I had not tried anything before and I was a little bit scared. I am glad that my friend and designer went with me and supported me on the day. After winning Miss Motors, I decided to take part in World Beauty Queen and I was chosen to represent my country in Korea. Those are the only pageant that I competed but this year I had a huge privilege to be a judge in Miss Film Festival Argentina. World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant? I have always been curious about pageants and enjoyed watching those spectacular shows but I didn’t have enough confidence to participate. I had a pleasure to work with Venera Tabakin, who designs haute couture gowns often seen at red carpet events. Venera is not only a talented fashion creator but also an amazing and very supportive person. She told me about Miss Motors and about benefits that it might bring to my career. It is not only about winning but also training walk, public appearance and stress management. I decided to send my application and it was accepted. I was wearing Venera’s designs during the final and I am very grateful for all the support she has given me.
World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title? Miss Motors is a special pageant. It is associated with adrenaline and appearance at different car events. I had known that winners would go to Monaco to watch Grand Prix and take part in many prestigious events. I really wanted to win and go to Monaco and also I knew that it would be a big step in my career.
World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about? Miss Motors is a pageant associated with Grand Prix and Formula 1. It requires confidence and positive attitude, there are a lot of public appearances for the winners. World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition? There are a few rounds during the grand final. It starts with an introduction and a short interview. The participants come individually and are asked a few personal questions about their talents, hobby, why they decided to participate, what would they do in case of winning. The second round is a cocktail dress, after that swimwear and the last round - evening gowns. That is my favorite. After that, all the girls have to go backstage and the winners of different titles are called. After the coronation there is time for photos, videos, interviews.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition. I was very excited and happy but when I arrived to the backstage I got very stressed and I was very quiet. I had my makeup and hair done and I prepared my outfits. When the event started I felt more excitement than stress. People who hosted the event were extremely nice and supporting. I was shocked when they announced me as one of the winners. I wanted to cry from the happiness. I went back on the stage, they put sash and crown on me and I was very happy.
I would like to thank Bernice, amazing woman who organizes Miss Motors for all the support and care that she gave me after I got my title.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for. I really love animals and I have always supported charities who help animals and I used to volunteer at shelters. Recently I had an honour and pleasure to host a charity gala in Hollywood Babes in Toyland benefiting Barks of Love. It is amazing how many people came and brought presents and donations for dogs in need. Also I try to use my influence in social media and increase the awareness about cruelty against animals and ethical aspects in fashion.
World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title? As a winner I went to Monaco for Grand Prix I watched car racing and took part in many social events. I was also invited to Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi and Australia but because my other work commitments I wasn’t able to go. I supported a patriotic action organized by Polish community in London benefiting polish soldiers who fought in World War II. I made many other appearances at fashion and entertainment events.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements? During my career I worked at many fashion shows in London, Paris, Monaco, Italy, USA. I had photo sessions for many brands and designers that got published in magazines in different countries. I worked not only with fashion and lifestyle brands but also with famous artists like Luap and Ace of LA.I was a judge in a beauty pageant in Argentina Miss Film Festival International. I would consider it as one of my greatest achievements. I’m entirely grateful for the trust that the organizer Iris Rodriguez put on me and offered me this amazing opportunity.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over? I believe that it’s crucial to be positive and natural, smile a lot and bring positive emotions. Beauty pageants are not only about external beauty but also about attitude and judges can easily see through it.
World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?
I am not sure. I am confident and I believe that you have to be beautiful outside and inside and bring only positive energy to the venue.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.
I remember that we were all on the backstage and it was very loud. Girls were talking and laughing and there was music and noise from the audience. When I heard my name I was not sure it was my name. First because of the nice, second because I did not believe it was me! I was so happy I wanted to cry!
World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?
It is a beautiful and special thing. It's also a responsibility. The judges put trust in you, to make a positive appearance and to influence other girls.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?
I would never expect to gain so much from beauty pageant. Besides accelerating my career and giving me a lot of amazing opportunities, I started to believe in myself more and I became more confident.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your self esteem and body image?
I helped me a lot! To participate in the pageants I started training a lot and eating very healthy but caring about my health and body is something I like. I am very happy with my look and I am very happy that the audience and the judges liked it to.
World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?
It feels amazing! I'm happy and proud and always try to influence other girls to believe in themselves and be positive.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?
I think it is very important to train the walk and it will improve with the practice. What is important is not to walk too fast. The walk should be confident and sophisticated
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?
Wooow, that is sooo important! Firstly, you must know what color suits you and what shape a dress is flattering for your type of figure. You have to feel comfortable and pretty! I was very happy with my choice of the dresses and those beautiful designs gave me confidence.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview?
Just try to relax and don't take it too seriously. It's a nice chat about you, your plans and dreams. Be friendly and calm.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition?
I didn't have a lot of time to prepare I think I applied around 3 weeks before the competition. I started going to the gym more often and I went for a facial. On the day I had my makeup and hair done by a professional person.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?
Honestly, I don't remember! The level of adrenaline was so high and I was stressed and excited at the same time so I don't remember everything clearly. I think I went too fast in the first round so maybe that's the thing that could be improved.
World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest?
From a perspective of a judge I saw everything differently. Judging Miss Film Festival in Argentina was an incredible experience for me. I noticed that there were so many beautiful and nice girl but they were not confident. They walk was not good and some of them looked at the floor too much.
World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience?
I have been modeling for a long time but also I would like to try acting.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2019 as a Queen?
I have many plans! I started to write articles about fashion for a few magazines, I will also work on a new project as a tv reporter and I hope to develop my modeling career.
World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?
I want to show people that it is not the most import how you look only outside but also inside. We should be always positive, empower and support each other and believe in the magic of the dreams but dreams come true.
