World Class Queens of England: Please tell us about yourself.

As you already know my name is Demi and I am 20, I have lived with my Nana all my life and she has raised me to be the young woman I am today.  I have my Level 2 in Accounting and have been college to do Makeup Artistry which I do in my spare time on clients!

World Class Queens of England: What does women Empowerment means to you?

To rise up and help women become the best they can be, by supporting them and giving them the confidence they don’t usually get from others.

World Class Queens of England: Tell us about your pageant history.

My first pageant was Miss Teen Great Britain 2017 where I represented Greater Manchester as Miss Teen Oldham 2017 where I didn’t place, I then entered Miss Lancashire 2017 where I also didn’t place. After that I then entered Miss Natural Beauty England 2018 where I won best in Evening and came 2nd runner up. My 4th Pageant was Crown and Glory 2018 as they offered a Natural Beauty International place, I got best in Evening, fashion and the secret judges choice awards I got were best swim wear outfit and best walk but did not win the title.  Finally, I went in for the non contracted title of Miss Global Darling where I won Best in interview, best in evening, best in sports wear and The Miss title. Shortly after I got a free place into Miss European Wales where I won Photogenic for the wales team.

Finally, I thought I’d give it one more shot to go to Natural Beauty Internationals as it is my dream title so I became a Natural Beauty England Finalist I then won Best in interview, best in fashion, most publicity, most photogenic and I also took away the Miss Natural Beauty England 2019/20 title away with me!

World Class Queens of England: What inspired you to do your first pageant?

When I was 10 years old I watched my first pageant on TV and ever since then I wanted to enter one myself. I watched the well known Sasha Bennington and Jayne Harris on a documentary where Sasha goes to compete in America for the first time.

After many years I seen Pageant Land develop into more Role Models and community work and after I got my first job in McDonald’s and could pay for the Pageant life myself I entered myself into one.

World Class Queens of England: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?

I was in a Pageant group on Facebook and seen Natural Beauty England where it looked for more than on stage work but appearances and charity work so I entered in 2018. After I experienced what Natural Beauty was like I just wanted to go back to the same Pageant as I never felt like I was part of a family as a finalist till I was a Natural Beauty Finalist! It was weird I think you just know when you belong to a system and the directors are so supportive I couldn’t ask for anymore in a Pageant system.

World Class Queens of England: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?

First of all Natural Beauty looks for the person within as they look for the girl who does as much community work as possible and raising funds for not just the chosen charity but one they personally support to. Natural beauty chooses judges that won’t pick the well known Pageant girl but the one who works the hardest, the one who has her platforms and tries to raise awareness where she can as a finalist. Finally, Natural Beauty look for a girl who’s supportive of one another, a good role model and who they think will help and inspire people.

World Class Queens of England: What are you being judged on during the competition?

For Natural Beauty England you get judged on Interview, Fashion, Evening, Appearances and Charity.

In Natural Beauty International we are being judged on our National Costume and speech, Our Fashion and Evening wear/walks, Appearances, Charity and Interview. We also have a summer shoot/swim wear shoot for the photogenic award.

World Class Queens of England: Tell us about your experience during the competition.

Amazing! I’ve honestly felt like I have a second family thanks to Natural Beauty! I can not imagine my life without my sister queens, they are there for me and we have our own little select teams England, Wales and Scotland although we will be competing against each other we just honestly are happy for whoever wins in my opinion. Moreover, it doesn’t feel like work like I have to do anything it’s something I really enjoy being part of this Pageant system and I wouldn’t trade my place for anybody else as I already have my dream title.

World Class Queens of England: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.

My first platform is Sexual Assault Awareness and with my platform I’ve chosen to raise money for Rape Crisis England and Wales where I have done a 5k Run in Blackpool to raise funds for the charity. Rape Crisis  England & Wales Centres provide specialist support and services for victims and survivors of sexual violence.

My second platform is Anxiety and Depression Awareness which really does tie in with the sexual assault awareness too as there are many different ways to get anxiety and depression and ways to deal with it.

World Class Queens England: What appearances have you done with your title?

I have travelled over 1,600 miles with my title already going to North and South Wales to judge, attend archery competitions and Scotland for the Natural Beauty Scotland competition, Nottingham to judge a Glitz Pageant and many more.

World Class Queens of England: What are some of your achievements?

When I entered my first Pageant I made my 10 year old selves dream which was a massive accomplishment for myself. I also did a charity abseil despite my fear of heights which was one of my proudest achievements.

Moreover, I’m proudest to have gotten a modelling job, walking on the world bridal runway Twice and finally having my poem and makeup art posted in two different magazines.

World Class Queens of England: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?

Everyone has that something special and mine is my fearlessness to break the boundaries. I’m not afraid to say the unspoken and share my stories to help others, my motto is if I can do it so can you and that’s why I stand out because I will be the voice for the muted.

World Class Queens of England: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.

I was stood there holding hands with one of the most amazing girls I’ve ever met Emma Collins, I just was so overwhelmed I cried before hand because my natural beauty journey was over for another year and I just didn’t want it to end, my sister Lexi Smith Won Junior Natural Beauty and I was extremely proud I just was so proud of how hard I worked. I just remember holding my breath hoping to hear my name called I breathed and cried so proud of myself, just thinking all my hard work that has payed off the realisation my dreams have finally come true. I was on cloud nine and I don’t think it sunk in till my first appearance when I put my sash and crown on.

World Class Queens of England: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?

In school I was a prefect, I was a role model to all the younger students and as a beauty queen I feel like it’s just another way to be a role model and use a system as a platform for your own platforms as well as theirs.

To me it’s not just a crown and a sash it’s hard work like in a football game when they win a trophy. Pageants are like a sport but for community work and charity’s and it’s a group full of girls who just want to make the world a better place but also get to dress up like a princess once in awhile.

World Class Queens of England: How did competing in pageants help your life?

Pageants have given me so much confidence which help me in so many ways like in job interviews and also makes me stand out as it’s  something different on my CV. Pageants also, give me one in a life time opportunities such as travelling around the U.K. and now abroad, meeting some of the nicest and considerate people in the world.

World Class Queens of England: How did pageants help your self esteem and body image?

Pageants give everyone so much confidence and pageant girls are all different, physically and mentally. Pageants help me love myself for me, knowing I’m not the only one and having support from everyone who just love to empower each other.

World Class Queens of England: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?

I am honoured to have helped so many people male and females by being the voice they don’t have and giving them confidence. Treat others how you wish to be treated and also amazing to be one of their role models makes me feel like I am doing something right, making my life worth while and giving joy to others too.

World Class Queens of England: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over?

To be different, judges will have seen so many girls doing the same walk doing the same poses and you want to just stand out but also eye contact and to always have a smile on your face show I’m enjoying being on stage.

World Class Queens of England: How did you prepare for your competition?

Firstly, I went to training to help with my walks and interview skills, so practice, practice and more practice. Secondly, I updated my Facebook page as much as possible with my appearances, charity and community work. Finally, I found outfits I was comfortable in as when I wear something I like and am comfortable in I can walk with confidence.

World Class Queens of England: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?

Basically just Practice, relax and find shoes that you can walk in even if they are lower than everyone else’s or different shoes that every other Pageant girl wears. Just enjoy your time on stage! You don’t to be perfect just show you’re having a good time, be comfortable and confident and you’ll look amazing.

World Class Queens of England: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?

Honestly, just find something comfortable and that fits right. Know what’s age appropriate for you too if you’re a teen you don’t want a dress that has a slit and shows off your chest as that is too old for you. My personal tip, you know what you like about yourself even though you’re perfect everyone has that something they want to hide or show off more much as your arms or stomach so Wear something you feel you look your best in.

World Class Queens of England: What are your tips for winning interview?

I would act like your at a job interview, so sit up, speak with confidence, know key points on which you want to talk about and mention as you only have a limited time. Don’t forget to give them eye contact and just relax it’s not hard they’re asking about yourself and what you do who doesn’t know you more than yourself they are not tricking you just trying to get to know you.

World Class Queens of England: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?

I’ve done quite a few such as flicking my fashion dress WAY too much and walking way to fast for evening and Wearing two systems sashes at the same time at appearances! NEVER DO THAT GIRLS! My mistake when doing my first Pageant was signing up to two and accepting both as I didn’t know you could only do one at a time for a contracted title.

World Class Queens of England: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest?

I’m sure everyone has their own mistakes they wish to change but I’m not one to pick the bad from people and only the good so I honestly don’t know I guess the same as me? Swishing the dresses WAY to much is a common thing but I’ve been there and done that myself.

World Class Queens of England: Any modelling or acting experience?

I have appeared in the back of a bars and melody Music video but you can hardly see me. I have had a few modelling jobs such as the World Bridal Runway, modelling for a few Asian bridal shows and for some photographers websites.

World Class Queens of England: What are your plans for 2019 as a Queen?

There are so many to list but I guess To inspire and help as many people as possible, to help as many charities as possible and to just enjoy my year day by day!

I also want to be different use my title for the silent to give them the voice they deserve.

World Class Queens of England: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

To not be afraid to break the boundaries, to help the helpless and to not afraid to be different.
