I am Davinder Sands, I was born in Jalandhar, which is in the Punjab District of India, since childhood I have been raised, cared for and been given moral guidance by my beloved Grandmother Parkash Kaur. At the age of 17 having never left my home state I moved to the beautiful city of  Auckland in New Zealand where I completed my Diploma in Business Management. I now work with my husband in his Jade Carving business while pursuing my career in Acting and Modelling. For as long as I can remember it has been my dream to become an Actress, but never had the opportunity until last year in 2018 when I first became a part of Empress Universe Mrs International.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment mean to you?

Empowerment mean equality between men and women, where both both have the same rights and status in society, we are like a bird where men are one wing and women are the other, the bird cannot fly unless both wings are equal in strength. we must be given the independence and power to make our own decisions in order to be the way we want to be and grow the way that women can. And we must receive the same if not more education than men as we are the first educators of our children who will grow into the men and women of the next generation.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.

This was the first pageant which was presented to me as an opportunity that I couldn't pass up. it started with the entry rounds and then moved into the area, city, state and then finally the national rounds which we had to win to get to the finals that were held in Goa.

World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?

For me it was that that I was finally at a place in my life where I felt supported to do so when the opportunity first presented itself, prior to now I had always been in a place where I was either too busy with study and work or I was discouraged from pursuing this modelling or acting coming from a rural village in India. But now since I married my husband I felt supported and encouraged to chase my dreams and accept the opportunities that come knocking at my door.

World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?

I chose to compete for this title to prove to myself that getting married would not limit my opportunities as a model or an actress as the strength that I carry is not the strength of my own but of those who love and support me.

World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?

Empress universe started in 2017 as a beauty pageant in conventional definition, it started as an idea transcended into a platform where strong and spirited women from all around the world who have the potential to inspire a positive aspiration in women around the world. All the while keeping in mind that true beauty is that which is held within and reflected on the outside. Since its inception, Empress Universe has been working incessantly to establish a positive, well-rounded image of women across the globe. Our concept weaves around the fact that beauty does not come in standard pre-established measurements. That beauty is more than pounds and inches. It’s the overall aura that radiates through her hard work, passion, and persistence in a woman that makes her beautiful.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?

The unique thing about this pageant is that from the point go they tried to include tasks to pass which emphasized ones inner beauty, confidence  and outer beauty. Through community service activities, speaking in front of the camera and dress and photography rounds. All of these require effort, practice and endurance. During the pageant week in Goa there was a lot of group participation required where we had to support and encourage each other to be and achieve the best week could with the tools we had. For the evening finale we had three rounds, a Fashion round, cultural dress round and a question round where we were judged on out posture, confidence and ability to work together on stage during the event.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.

For me the highlight was girls who came to this event and made it what it was, we all became such close friends there supporting each other and keeping in touch even after the event had finished. The kindness of the organizers and the staff and how they went out of their way to make us feel at home while we were away from our families.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.

I volunteered at a Red cross salvation army shop for a few months. After my marriage, husband and I have been traveling around and moved cities a number of times where we have found it impossible to part of any community service, but once we do finally settle I would love to do some work with the children of our community which is a dream of mine. I still give some small donations to places like the orphanages in India and animal rescue and care organisations.

World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?

This pageant finished so recently that I am only just getting back to reality after the hype of being a part of the pageant in December, but I'm excited to see how I can contribute to the next Empress Universe International Beauty Pageant.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements?

Fighting to conquer my fears of stage freight and social anxiety, having come from a small minded community and I'm still finding the courage to do modelling. Fighting with my depression in life I want to show others that its not the end that it should not limit your abilities, to show them that if I can get do it, they can too!!! I was also crowned as Miss Congeniality for having the ability to get along with everyone.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over?

I believe in being what you are and show people your true self, while trying to win the title do not become so competitive that you forget to help the other girls who are going rough the same journey as you. Wear the dress that makes you feel beautiful and something you can be confident in. And answer the questions from your heart with sincerity.

World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?

Each and everyone of my pageant sisters are all amazing individuals, beautiful and smart. Every girl has something that sets them apart from the other. Personally I believe that if I work hard and never give up that these qualities will be noticed. And the support I have from my husband who is always there to encourage me to reach for the stars.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.

When they called my name as the 1st runner up of Mrs Empress Universe I was kind of in shock, as prior to this I had been crowned Miss congeniality and my assumptions was that those title holders had received their crown and that was it. I was honesty so happy as this was also the first every pageant that I had participated in, I didn't imagine that I would win, my targets were only to build up my confidence, fight my fears and meet all the pageant sisters that I had been talking with all over from all over the world.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you being a Beauty Queen?

I try see and understand the inner beauty in people first before making presumptions about them based on their outer appearances. A women with a pure soul and beautiful heart is a true beauty queen. A women who has the courage to offer support and give love to others selflessly is someone I believe can be a true beauty queen.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants help your life?

It gave me the chance to work on myself and challenge myself, it gave me the chance to learn from others who were on the same path as me during the pageant. Through this I was able to build up my confidence, I felt like the path and achievement gave me a voice that everyone would listen to center stage. It also encouraged me to take the chances to show kindness.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants help your self esteem and body image? During the pageant they reminded us to look after our selves, go to the gym and lead a healthy life, as we become so busy in our lives that we often forget to look after ourselves and work toward our goals. I learnt new tricks and balance from other girls during my time at the pageant and I found security to work on those weaknesses and turned them into strengths.

World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?

It is really an honorable feeling, it feels like a very important responsibility that should be done right to give others a good example. To encourage others to focus and work towards  their dreams. And I just want to remind everyone that never say you cannot do something, if you persevere and believe, you will achieve it.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning a better pageant walk?

Practice, practice and practice!!! Practice before the pageant and get as much an possible to that you can be comfortable walking this manner, and find comfortable heels so that you don't hurt yourself and ensure that when you are trying to be confident with your walk that you can be comfortable doing so.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing the right pageant dress?

As I said before, Wear the dress that makes you feel beautiful and something you can be confident in. You can always look at the most recent fashion models and dresses being worn, but remember everyone is different, our heights, our body shapes, so be true to yourself about what makes you feel comfortable, because you will only look beautiful if you feel beautiful.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for a winning interview?

Speak from your heart and don't try to copy others or impress someone. In the end they want to know who 'You' are and be proud of what you are. Work on being humble and show kindness. Honesty is the best policy.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition?

For me it came as a very long journey over about seven months where we had to complete the entry rounds, area, city, state and country rounds. Each and every task came with its own challenges and obstacles which my husband helped me to over come. We had to do talent videos, introduction videos, finding the right coloured dresses to wear to the competition, various photo shoots and more. So with all of these came their own challenges and all we were able to do is take it one step at a time, discuss it, prepare where we could and improvise when we were on short notice. For the grand finale in Goa, we hired and bought the most beautiful dresses we could find and all the colors and out fits to match. I practiced and prepared myself mentally the best I could because, the one thing I understand is that no matter how much you will prepare, always remember that our fate is not in our own hands but in the hands of  the one true God and our success will be blessed by Him.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you made while competing you wish you could redo and fix it?

I think every mistake teaches us to do better next time and I am a strong believer that mistakes are our greatest teachers. So if I could go back and change my mistake I wouldn't, because it would change my experience, and I wouldn't learn from it. I am only an expert from the experience I have had from the mistakes I have made.

World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes were made by girls during the contest?

Not being who you are, trying to be like someone else. Being so busy thinking about winning that you forget to enjoy yourself and learn from you experience and the experience of others around you.

World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience?

My dream has always been to do acting, so I grab every chance I get. I have done a few music videos so far as the main actress, and there are a few more in the works this year so keep an eye out. I have worked with a few different photographers exploring different styles of modelling and dressing.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2019 as a Queen?

This year I want to go back to studying and working on my career, at the same time finding all the opportunities to model and be part of films and videos.

World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

I would hope to leave a legacy of love and kindness, and to seek every opportunity to help those in need.
