Nessa: I’m great! I have a full day today making gowns for an upcoming Gala I’m sponsoring in Nashville next week and then getting ready to fly out to Phoenix tomorrow, but super excited to be talking to you guys!
World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.
Nessa: I’m 28 years old, I’m a fashion designer, a ballroom dancer & a hair and make up artist. I’m very family oriented, I’m the cook in my family and we very often have family get togethers and dinners. I love to travel, I love trying new restaurants, I love concerts, salsa and swing dancing, skateboarding, bike riding, rollercoasters & karaoke (I mean... I’m Filipino lol.) I love love love love volunteering. I have a group of friends we all volunteer together at least once a week and where ever I travel. I grew up all around the world; My dad was in the Army and we lived all over Europe, San Diego, Texas, Louisiana, the Philippines. I’m very spontaneous and talkative-- I’m a very social human haha.
World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to compete in your first pageant.
Nessa: I’ve been working in the pageant industry for some years now as the designer of many delegates’ evening gowns. I have judged pageants and always the behind the scenes. I made the gown for our reigning Ms. Earth 2016 and she has been saying I should try competing. After many “no’s” she and I had a conversation about the mission statement and what the Mrs. & Ms. Earth Organization stands for and it really hit home for me. This is the first pageant I’ve competed in and I’m having an incredible experience during my reign.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about Ms. Philippines Earth competition.
Nessa: This sounds really funny but I have a lot of masculine energy and this was the first time I was a “lady.” I got to channel my feminine grace. I still struggle with it but I’m so grateful for this experience.
World Class Beauty Queens: What evening gown did you choose for the competition?
Nessa: A gown I made :) Red!
World Class Beauty Queens: What platform did you choose for Miss Earth?
Nessa: I stand for awareness of sexual assault and female empowerment. As a victim of sexual assault I feel it is my obligation to spread awareness and take part in the prevention of rape and abuse. Everyone finds healing and empowerment in different ways and I am working with a clinical therapist/life coach to support the girls we work with. I am also working with Kahlil Rountree, UFC fighter to teach self defense. I have worked with many organizations that support this same mission. I’ve traveled as far as India to support young girls who have been forced into sex slavery and I’ve worked with women who work in the adult industry. My vision is to support everyone of all walks of life. It is so important to be kind and non judgmental-- everyone just wants to be loved.
I am also very involved with Chipsa Alternative Cancer Hospital in Mexico where I volunteer every 2 weeks, I go down there, get to know the terminally ill patients; I paint with them, teach dance classes, eat with them, sing to them, even just sit outside reading together. I’m extremely passionate about this hospital. I’ve seen miracles happen before my eyes, and it gave me a brand new perspective on the cancer and food industry that I’m dedicated to bringing awareness to ... but THATS a whole other article in itself that i can go on FOREVER!
World Class Beauty Queens What appearances have you for Miss Earth?
Nessa: I’ve guest spoken for the All India Women’s Leadership Conference this past November, I’ve appeared as a guest for many Galas such as St. Jude Children’s research hospital, Home Aid,Children’s Discovery Museum, JDRF Diabetes Foundation among others. I’ve guest spoken at UNLV with Prevention is Awareness on sexual assault. I’ve attended a few magazine premier parties in Las Vegas. The Annual World MMA Awards, and I am about to go to the Hope Song Gala in Nashville then an appearance at the Pure Aloha Festival in Vegas.
World Class Beauty Queens: Other than your platform, you mentioned you volunteer a lot.
Nessa: Yes every week at least.
World Class Beauty Queens: Would you like to tell us about it.
Nessa: Absolutely! I life coach for a leadership University called Choice Center and every class has a “Legacy Project” that they raise about 100k for a foundation (different every time) and they do it in 7 days. I also organize random fundraisers & homeless feedings regularly. Its really fun, I always have friends over to cook or a fundraiser party. I am also involved with my church’s Missionary group called REACH where we travel abroad to volunteer.
World Class Beauty Queens: What would be your personal message?
Nessa: Everyone wants to be loved. Give REAL hugs. Be open. Actively listen. Be generous with who you are.
World Class Beauty Queens: What does crown means to you?
Nessa: My crown is my microphone, my stage for what I have to say about what I care about.
World Class Beauty Queens: Do you have a personal quote you live by?
Nessa: “BE DO HAVE.”
(Most people say if they HAVE something they will BE happy, and when they finally are happy they will DO the things that they want. BE who you aspire to be, DO the things the person you want to be would do, so that you can HAVE the life you want.)
World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy would you like to leave behind?
Nessa: I would like people to say about me when I finish my reign, “Nessa was a ‘Queen of Hearts.’ She genuinely cared about people, it was her personal mission to make sure as many mouths were fed, people were hugged and that everyone she spoke to was understood. She was a force of nature. She moved mountains on the things she stood for. She made people feel safe and loved.” My Life is my message.
