World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.

I think I’m a serious person, always expecting nothing short of perfection. Sometimes I find myself too serious and always have to remind myself not to be too serious as I will not get out alive! (Personal joke) Always like to understand first before I want to be understood. I believe that learning should never stop and that staying humble is important no matter how rich or how educated or informed one is.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment means to you?

To me, women empowerment means getting women in this era to be aware of the role and potential they have regardless of their educational or financial status. It means identifying and recognizing the strength and weakness of oneself and doing what’s needful to make up for what’s needed to carry out or perform a task/project to the best.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.

Never participated in any but have always watched the world level pageants since young. Was convinced by Ms Beverly Tan of TKS & Sons and Ms Veronica Yeo Elite Mrs Singapore 2010 for close to three years before I decided to give it a go. Was not prepared back then as I had many commitments but with the children more grown up, it has given me time to think for myself in terms of what legacy I want to leave behind. It has been an interesting and eye-opening journey so far.

World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?

It stems from the fact that it will open up a channel and platform for me to help the needy more. I sincerely hope to be able to use the title to benefit causes and organisations for the betterment of the less privileged.

World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?

Hope to be able to inspire and also be a model for many others to come. I hope to be able to be a bench-mark for the future queens.

World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?

It is an interesting journey where one will need to learn poise, discipline, etiquette, presentation etc. It is also what I would call a “self-discovering” journey. Everyone learns from this journey differently and it will help you to put into perspective how you want to live to that title of being a Beauty Queen and what you want to do with the title.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?

Poise, etiquette, style, skills, talent and presentation. I guess team playing skills is also part of it!

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.

It’s an amazing experience as you will get to see the various background which the participants come from and what inspires them to want to take part in this journey. The commitment to be participating in it is no mean feat in this time challenging era.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.

I’m an ardent advocate for World Vision. I’ve been a child sponsor for almost 20 years. I believe that children are innocent and always subject to the cruelties of this world especially if they are not born into a comfortable environment. The only way to help them is to help them get an education so that they can help themselves to change what circumstances they want to. Start the children on the right footing is the least we can do for them.

World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?

Spoken for World Vision during the Christmas season outreach, travelled with World Vision to visit my sponsored child in Vietnam, and also another upcoming one to Thailand. Whilst I was in Vietnam with World Vision, I had the privilege of being on the panel of discussion with the town mayor during the Women’s International Day celebration day. Attended various events organised by TKS & Sons as well.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over?

Smile, be confident and connect with everyone using your eyes. Enjoy the process, focus on the experience.

World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?

I’ve always seen myself to be an average girl next door. It’s hard for me to self-praise but I guess from the feedback from the people around me, it’s my personality that stands out - the sincerity of wanting to connect with people: to hear before I can be heard. I guess “still water runs deep” is the thing that makes me stand out!

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.

Honestly speaking, I was shocked! I didn’t expect myself to win at all as I see my fellow participants to be a lot more outstanding with their dressing and appearances. It was really unexpected surprise win for me.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?

A Beauty Queen is not just someone who is focused on the physical appearance - it is someone who is a queen from inside out. Someone who leads her life by being an inspiration to others, by being exemplary to others and someone who never stops improving herself so that she can extend her knowledge and wisdom to those around her. A Beauty Queen is someone who not just touches your heart but also your soul with the way she carries herself and also by what she says and leaves behind, wherever she goes.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?

It has helped me gain a different level of respect for people who come to know about it. It has also helped open up opportunities and opened up my views on many matters.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your selfesteem and body image?

It’s a constant reminder that I’ve to stay healthy and look smart so that I can be an example for others to follow.

World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?

That’s something I’ve always wanted to be - to be an inspiration to others. It makes me feel positive and pushes me to keep raising the benchmark of myself.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?

Use the journey as a journey to either change or improve yourself. Tell yourself, if it’s meant to be, it’s up to me! Everything is possible if you put your heart and soul to it.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?

Get the advice's from image consultants, read up on dressing up. Identify your limitations and play down on them. Find out your strengths and accentuate them. Don’t dress to seduce, dress to entice. Just remember, your dressing is only half of the battle won, your poise is the other half. You can dress yourself in the most expensive dress but if you can’t carry it well, everything goes down the drain! Also, checking with the Pageant Director/Organizer will help you go a long way!

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview?

Speak from your heart, be genuine with your answers. Smile and don’t rush through your answers during the interview. Listen to the questions very carefully, be clear and focused with your answers.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition?

Keeping in touch and always asking questions when I wasn’t sure helped in the preparation. I had to constantly check with the Pageant Director, Ms Beverly Tan, for guidance as I was clueless. Planning in advance to avoid last minute stress also helped with the preparation.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?

I guess my biggest mistake is not giving enough time to share with friends and supporters about my participation. I was just so shy about it. If I can redo and fix it, I’ll spread the news like wildfire instead of keeping it under wraps!

World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest?

I guess everyone of us makes mistakes, nobody’s perfect and we just learn as we go along. To me, everyone did their best so we should be accentuating their merits instead of focusing on their mistakes. Even if we spot any mistakes, we should just learn from them.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2019 as a Queen?

I want to use the title to inspire to help more girls/ladies and charitable organisations and to share with them my life’s journey. To live up to the purpose of the crown - Crown for Compassion. I hope to be able to do more for causes that I support.

World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

To be an inspiration to girls, especially girls/ladies who are in the less advantageous situations, that whatever they put their heart and mind to, it can be achieved. Always be a first rate version of yourself, don’t be a second rate version of someone else. We die once but live everyday. Never stop learning. Always be sincere and genuine. Always remember to lend a helping hand and remember that we’re more blessed than many others out there. World Class Beauty Queens Magazine would like to say thank you for this amazing interview.
