World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.
My name is Kimberly Moens, I am 33 years old and I live in Middelburg, Zeeland, the Netherlands. I live with my dog Nero he is a Boerboel, he's a big boy but very loving and caring. In my free time, I like to work out, take care of my health, watch movies and go on trips with friends and family. I am an open minded person and respect all living things. People, animals and plants alike. I love to learn new things and meet new people. I like conversing with different people and hearing different opinions on different subjects. I believe you can learn from everyone. Rich, poor, educated, uneducated, black, white, Muslim, Christian, everyone! I love advocating for women and the challenges we face. I try to speak up for those who can't or are too scared to do so. I found out a lot of people can respond in anger when you do this. I try to talk to them or use them as an example if they are not willing to discuss a subject. My personal slogan is "I want everyone to have the freedom to be who they want to be." Other than that, I believe we should all stop excluding each other and try to learn and understand one another.
World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment mean to you?
Women Empowerment, to me, means that instead of always competing with each other we support and love each other. By building a strong female community that will love and support one another we can lead by example. Besides just supporting and loving each other, we are here to empower and support other minorities. We can do this by educating young people about inequality and what this does to minorities and our earth. I’m an active feminist. This means I fight for all the people and animals that are still not being treated equal. I am happy to be alive in this time, we are making progress, the world is changing and we will continue to make progress.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.
My journey started a year ago here in the Netherlands, I applied to compete in Mrs Netherlands Universe 2019. I came in third. During this first competition I was approached by a recruiter from the Ms World International Pageant. They invited me to apply for casting as Ms Netherlands World International 2019. I decided to apply and after two qualification and elimination rounds, I was selected to represent the Netherlands in Miami. I had the time of my life. The pageant was amazing. The executive producer Shelly was amazing and my sister queens where amazing. And the icing on the cake was, I came home with the Ms Universe Elite 2019 title. It was a proud moment for me personally as the culmination of preparation, hard work and determination all collided on stage as I heard my name being announced as the winner. A few weeks ago Pageants of Heritage approached me to enroll as Mrs Netherlands Heritage International 2020. I decided to apply and after I got accepted they offered me the ND position for the Netherlands. This is an amazing opportunity so I took it and casted this amazing young woman that I will be coaching all the way. Mentoring young delegates is part of the support that I advocate for and it is a pleasure for me to actively take part in the development of a fellow pageant sister.
World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?
I had a rough 2018 I lost a lot of people. But the one that stuck with me the most was my friend who took her own life and her reasons to do it. For me it was the right time to become more active in empowering women on a bigger scale. We are equal, we are strong, we are more than beauty, we are intelligent and worthy of being treated equal. I believe that through pageantry I can reach more people, pageantry opens doors and presents opportunities for me to bring awareness to a cause that is very important to me. It gives me a louder voice to advocate for those who do not feel empowered enough to stand up for themselves. I hear a lot of women say ”I can’t do that”, I want every women to believe she CAN!
World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?
World International pageant stands for changing the face of pageantry. I believe there are some things that should change, some systems still use old rules that are not very female friendly. It’s 2020 and that should change. Apart from that, Shelley, our International director is the most caring and loving person I’ve met in the last few years and that showed from the very beginning. She wants her girls to succeed in every part of life.
World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?
The goal of the Ms. World International Pageant is to inspire women from every country, continent and culture to come together, in the spirit of competition, to share their passions and promote their platforms on an international stage. They celebrate the things that make women unique and different. The producers have a really fresh approach to competition and create a glamorous environment with lots of fun activities. Everything was upscale with our own security detail and lots of staff making sure each of us were prepared, confident and ready for the next event. Every queen is provided with a world class experience and a once in a lifetime opportunity.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?
Beauty – 25% - runway competition wearing a formal evening gown of contestants’ choice
Fitness- 25% - on-location runway competition wearing swimsuit of contestants’ choice
Interview- 25% - tv style interview where contestants are are mic'd-up and individually filmed seated with lights and cameras rolling.
Photogenic- 25%- contestants are scored during an active photo shoot on their posing ability/camera appeal.
Introduction- 25%- contestants introduce themselves wearing their state or country costume.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.
I had the best time in Miami. Everything was run in a very professional manor from start to finish. The resort was right on beach and had three different restaurants we could pick from. The activities included things like kayaking, water sports, beach volleyball, jet skiing and a VIP rooftop event at one of Miami’s most exclusive night clubs. The absolute best activity we did was the yacht party. We each walked the red carpet to board the yacht. The Queen of the Crowned camera crews were capturing all the fun and excitement at every location. No detail was overlooked. In the morning there were complimentary mimosas for all the contestants to sip while getting our hair and make-up done. The make up artist and hair stylists made us all look and feel like queens. Transportation to the different locations was taken care of perfectly and the limo ride to the theater was the perfect way to get us all in the right frame of mind for finals. As if that wasn’t enough, we had so much freedom to all get to know each other and create genuine connections with our sister queens. There where women from all over the world in the most variating ages, this made it the perfect experience for me. I love the diversity! I loved how personal everything was. Shelley made sure we all felt safe and at home.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.
I’m working on creating an inclusive, diverse, accepting and loving platform where we can all share our opinions and feelings in a safe environment. I stand for action against climate change first and formost, because I believe there is nothing to fight for when there is no world to live on and climate change is a product of capitalism and not treating all people and animals equal. I’ve protested in the international climate strike. I’m in contact with some of the kids that are taking a big stand against climate change and I try to support them and give them a bigger platform. I am also protesting discrimination in different ways trough different channels. I am in touch with Uyghur support group Netherlands and will be working with them this year. I have campaigned against domestic violence and will continue doing so in 2020. I am open to support more campaigns and causes.
World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?
Charity event for Kids suffering from Duchenne
International climate strike 2019
I am more active on helping individuals.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements?
Helping women get out of bad situations, showing them they’re not alone and that there will be people out there that will help them. Open up the conversation to men, so they can share their feelings on the subject without feeling emasculated, about women being abused, but also on men getting abused. I got people to eat less meat, stop using products that are known to be tested on animals. I have helped people see that systematic racism is a thing and that we have to change this. I have had fathers tell me they understand better how to talk and engage with their daughters.
World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?
Being your genuine, inclusive, loving and supporting self makes you stand out in any situation or place you will find yourself.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.
When my title was announced and my name was called it was one of the most surreal moments. Being there was already the most amazing experience and hearing your name on that amazing stage was unbelievable. I could not stop smiling, I was so grateful and so happy that all the hard work paid off in such an amazing way.
World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?
Being a beauty queen gives me the opportunity to create a platform and support other people that struggle with insecurity and inequality. As a beauty queen you function as a role model for girls and women all over the world, that is a big but wonderful responsibility we should not take too lightly.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?
It gave me a platform to start helping women and minorities on a bigger scale. It helped me get to know amazing women from all over the world. It opened a new world for me and I love it, I used to work in male dominated fields. That's was fine but getting to know all these amazing and powerful women gave me more confidence.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your self esteem and body image?
I am a woman so I will always have doubts about my body, like we all do. Unfortunately we live in a world where we are still judged on our looks on a daily bases. Our worth is still connected to our looks. I am fighting against this stigma, but we still feel the pressure. My self esteem got an amazing boost from competing with the diverse group of amazing women, we unconditionally supported each other trough everything with love and light. This has been an unforgettable experience that has shaped my own personal growth in a way I am very grateful for.
World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?
It’s a huge responsibility, but I love this responsibility. I believe leading by example is a great way to change how we do things. It is not always easy, but it is important and humble work we do.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over?
Be genuine, be yourself , smile and be supportive of all the people around you. World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition?
I think I’ve been preparing for this my whole life. I learned how to think commercial and how to sell my journey to find sponsors and supporters by working in sales and growing all the way to account manager in telecom. I learned about being open minded, patient and caring through my educational science study. I learned how to use and understand the internet, social media and advertising trough my IT course. It was a combination of my personal life experiences and my determination to be the best version of myself that prepared me for the pageant. Finding great coaches, searching for and obtaining great sponsors and generating publicity for my platform and the causes that I advocate for. This is all part of the preparations that lead to a successful outcome at a big international pageant.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?
First… a coach. A catwalk coach can help you find your best walk. Find a walk that makes you feel comfortable and makes you shine on stage.
Second is practice! Practice everywhere you go. At work, walking the dog, going to the supermarket, practice wherever you can.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?
Research what dresses are popular that year and then pick a dress that makes you feel comfortable in your skin and on a stage!
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview?
Be genuine, be true to yourself, be clear, be open, be decisive, be positive.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?
Making mistakes is a part of life. You learn and grow by making mistakes. I would not redo or fix any of them. The most important thing is that you keep smiling, get back up and learn from the experience. Never be ashamed, own your mistake and learn.
World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest?
Never forget you are a role model for many people.
World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience?
I’ve done a fashion show in Germany and the Netherlands.
I’ll have a catwalk show in Madrid in February.
Did a photo campaign against domestic violence.
Played in several video clips.
Extra in a short movie.
And the World International Pageant event was filmed for a reality TV pitch pilot called Queen of the Crowned.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2020 as a Queen?
I’ll be competing in Kuala Lumpur for the title Mrs Heritage International 2020. I decided to join this pageant because this pageant focuses on the climate and culture. I think these are very important subjects in 2020.
World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?
I want people to think of me and think of diversity, inclusiveness and feminism.
I want people to know being yourself is the best thing you can be.
I want people to think of my personal slogan: “ I want everyone to have the freedom to be who they want to be.”
