World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.

I was born and raised in the Philippines. I have 2 brothers and I'm the middle child. I'm very friendly (smiling all the time) and outgoing. I moved to Ireland with my family when I was 17yrs old. I do not hold a college degree, however, I'm a qualified Healthcare Assistant FETAC Level 5 and also hold Business Studies Secretarial FETAC Level 5. My very first work experience in Ireland was a helper in Wicklow Way Lodge, a family owned B&B. I did work as a Healthcare Assistant for nearly 10 years with different centres: St. Joseph's House for the Deaf and Deaf Blind People - I super love this job as I learned how to do the Irish sign language. It's a great feeling that I can communicate to them either using my hands and lip reading for the deaf people and I also worked in Bloomfield Care Centre in Rathfarnham and TLC Centre Maynooth. I also experienced working in a nightclub in Tullamore by collecting glasses. I did not last long there as I can't take the noise, it was too loud for me. When I was doing my Business Studies Secretarial course, I did work experience in Remax Auctioneer in Portarlington. Then I got a job as a switchboard operator and stock clerk in one of the biggest jewellery shop in Dublin called Weir and Sons in Grafton Street Dublin.

Now, I have my own family. I'm a wife to Padhraigh Nevin for nearly 11 years (18 years together) and I'm a Mam to my 3 beautiful daughters: Caoilfhinn 9, Ealga 7 and Kyna 4. I'm a full-time Mammy, my girls keeps me busy with their school and extra activities! I do work from home with Forever Living Products since 2018 and I always meet different people and becomes friends with them. My online shop is always open so if anyone is interested with our products, go to my online link: bit.ly/2rl3H5h. I also joined a national volleyball club (Tallaght Rockets D2 team) and we competed with other national teams. I'm also a freelance plus size model (I've done mostly charity fashion shows as it's for a good cause).

World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment means to you?

Empowerment includes the action of raising the status of women through education, raising awareness, literacy, and training. Women's empowerment is all about equipping and allowing women to make life-determining decisions through the different problems in society.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.

I started competing last January 2019 in Ireland Pageants. I won the Director's Choice Award and came 1st Runner Up Ms Curves Ireland. I went on to compete local pageants: Ms Bantu and Ms Curvette Ireland where I placed Runner Up in Ms Vintage Pin Up. I even entered an online photo competitions called Ms Curves 2019 where I won the Mrs Curves 2019 and also Ms Youthful Beauty 2019 where I won and got a place to compete in Pure UK. This year I competed and won Pure International Ms Ireland title and will compete for the international title in USA next year due to the pandemic.

World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?

I met Jennie the Director of Ireland Pageants in an event called Ireland Got Curves last 2018. Since I was a little girl, I always dream of becoming a pageant girl but never had a chance to do it but she told me that any age, size, shape, ethnicity can join. I got encouraged because I liked the diversity. There was a previous Queen who was 20stone at that time and I thought to myself, if she can do it, I can do it too. Few days later after meeting Jennie, I signed up as a finalist and I represented Kildare.

World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?

It is a faith based, community service driven pageant and also it is very diverse (no height, age, shape, size, ethnicity) which I love the most.

World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?

This pageant system is a faith based, community service driven pageant with 3 categories. However, they have 15 optional categories you can enter and so much more to offer. The directors for this system are highly professional and organized. If you win a National title, you are going to compete internationally to USA.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?

I will be judged on private interview, costume/fun fashion and evening gown. I am also entering 5 of the 15 side events. Those are photogenic, portfolio, supermodel, print model and Be The Impact project.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.

It was organized and fun and I gained new pageant family. The directors were amazing and super professional which made it a lot easier for us the contestants.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.

I do fundraising to my chosen charities (close to my heart) here in Ireland.

Body Positivity, I love to see plus size model/s like me in the catwalk/runway showcasing ourselves that as long as you love and you're confident in your own skin, you should go for whatever you want to do.

World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?

Since winning my title, my 1st appearance was when I attended an event called IRARA. I got an award for "Curvy Model of the Year". Since then, Lockdown came. I still do appearances at home wearing my sash and crown. I helped my friend who's also a Queen to look for her dress from my sponsor. I also helped my friends who are pageant Directors on their pageant bootcamp and also helped them on the day of the pageant (assisting contestants going up and down the stage during the evening gown category, also handing over sashes to the winners)

World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements?

I have been awarded the Curvy Model of the Year by IRARA. I was also the Head volunteer to our local Parent Toddler group for a year. It's very rewarding even if you don't get paid just to see other parents and babies Happy faces.

World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?

I feel I stand out because I am me. I make people feel at ease and relaxed. I don’t take myself too seriously and I feel that is what makes people drawn to me.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.

I was actually not well when I competed in Pure UK. When my name was called out, I had a mixed emotions as winning the title means so much. It's an honour to represent the country I grew up with. I think my photos says it all (smiling from ear to ear, mouth open).

World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?

To me it is not about the crown you wear on your head but it's what in your heart. You must be willing to be involved and speak up and out for what you believe in. We can change the world and it can start with one beauty queen touching one life for the better.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?

It has made me a very confident woman and happy with my own skin. Without self love, you can't love other things.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your self esteem and body image?

Pageants have helped me learn to take better care of myself not only physically but mentally as well. It’s about being healthy and strong! Pageants have thought me the importance of believing in yourself and setting goals!

World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?

I take being a role model very seriously. It is our duty as title holders to be great role models for all girls and women alike. Be a person that is of good moral character on all levels and still down to earth.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over?

I use eye contact and body language to show the judges that I am real, fun and confident but not over confident. The way you present yourself can make or break you on stage.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition?

Preparation is key.  There is no pressure if you are prepared. I practiced my walk with my heels on. Did a question and answer with my friends.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?

I recommend getting a coach that is familiar with the system you want to compete in. All pageant systems are different and it is important to do your homework.  Also, you must be yourself no matter what. Judges know based on your body language how you are feeling. Show them you are confident! And most importantly, walk and practice in your shoes!!!

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?

I normally look at different types of dresses and if like the style and suits me, I'll go for it. If you feel amazing in a dress than that is what you should pick. If you feel like a million bucks then you will model like it. Everybody is different and bodies are different. Pick what looks best for your body type and look.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview?

Always make it a conversation! It should never feel forced. Most importantly be yourself and make it a conversation. Nobody wants a boring Q&A session. I remembered, our time was up and I'm still talking.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?

I could've introduced myself better on stage but unfortunately, due to being ill that time, I didn't said much (trying to hold my cough).

World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest?

I see a lot of people that do not prepare and are overwhelmed by the experience. I have also witnessed girls with bad attitudes and that never works out for them.

World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience?

I have done extras on TV screens (Fair City, Anseo, Hallmark, Amber) and also an extra in a Bollywood movie called Ek Tha Tiger.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2020 as a Queen?

My plan is to keep doing what I love to do by continuing doing fundraising to my chosen charities, attend events and promote my title and pageant system.

I'm currently running an online photo competition called Summer Lockdown 2020, funds collected will be divided to 2 of my chosen charities.

World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

I want to be remembered as woman who put others before herself and truly made an impact on other peoples lives for the better. I want to leave a legacy of hope and love to all who meet me.
