World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment means to you?

I believe that the Women today are the future of a brighter tomorrow. We should all empower and support one another to enjoy the right to control and benefit from our ability to manage risk and improve our economic status and well being. I am always looking forward to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8 annually because it signifies our unity to make this world a beautiful place. Empowering girls around the world means a lot for me it stands that I am their own role model & idol and I truly think that is the most amazing job to do so. It also means that I can touch peoples heart and can change a person’s life forever.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.

Entering the World of Pageantry was new for me especially being just a 12 years old girl. Everything was new for me that time and I didn’t know what exactly to expect. Luckily, I have my whole family supporting me and gave me advice to just Be Diosem, to be me because that is the key of being successful and to never ever give up on my dreams. It made me realize to experience new things to build up who I am. My mom was the reason why I started joining Beauty Pageants and up until today she is still mesmerized by me winning two International Grand Title.

World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?

At first, I had nothing in mind joining beauty pageants in my life. My mom was the one who encouraged me to audition for a pageant that made me the representative of the City Capital of the Philippines, CITY OF MANILA in Princess Philippines Pageant 2016. I loved it, it was like love at first sight. I had never done anything like it before, and I did not realize how much work goes into pageants until our first week of practice. It was hard work and it taught me a lot. It was also a wonderful experience being a new to pageants & meeting new people and also knowing what I truly like. And since then I love being in and doing Pageantry.

World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?

I chose to compete and represent the Philippines again because I believe that my journey of being MISS TEEN TOURISM WORLD is not going to be the end but therefore just the beginning and also this is what I truly want to do. My heart speaks to become a role model and to have an amazing platform to influence the youth and speak up to does who can’t. My first International Title gave me a lot of opportunities which grew my career. I would like to nurture my career so that I would have fun experiences and more blessings in the Entertainment Industry. The title TEEN MISS GLOBAL UNITED would continue what I work hard for and my legacy.

World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?

The Global United Pageant is a program committed to seeking contestants and title holders who exemplify the beauty that comes from serving others in the community. Our pageant pairs with organizations from all over the world to give to those in need. Our International Director and Founder of Global United Pageant, Honorable Wendy Lindberg found that there was a need for programs for women to be celebrated for having a true beauty within themselves. She envisions to create and built a loving family and strong sense of belonging to the contestants and title holders that find themselves to be a part of this program. In this sense, every contestant and titleholders has a say in how the program will run each year lending a very personal aspect to the pageant for everyone involved. That is why I love this organization wholeheartedly.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?

There are a lot of ways how judges pick the right winner. One of them is how you carry yourself, the way you treat people, the level of which you care for the community and the fact that you want to represent them well will show through. The judges are looking for those traits in a contestant. The program was judged on how you Project, in Interview,  Community Service,  National / Country Costume, Personality Wear (an outfit or costume that tells a story about a person’s experience or personality she have/ has had), Evening Gown and Onstage Question. That are the portion of the contest in which each contestant is judged on the impact she makes and why she deserves to become the titleholder.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.

It was a roller coaster kind of experience not the nervous one, but the exciting feeling. I had have brought my whole family with me who had supporting and yelling my name and the Philippines. I felt that I had brought half of my country in that event. Most of the people there were amazed by my performance and that is what I think I also won, I won all of their hearts too. Different Nationalities was also complimenting my outfits, costumes and gowns. They were beyond happy seeing the designs made by Filipino Designers. I am so proud to be a Filipino and to carry my country’s name across my heart. All of my experiences in Beauty Pageants helped develop me to be able to win Teen Miss Global United. It is really helpful to have experience in another pageant. I have really enjoyed the experience because every new pageant is a chance to meet amazing people, whether it be your fellow candidates, or the organizations you get to work with. I've just had the time of my life.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.

I am beyond grateful to be having a platform which can change people’s heart. I stand to be the voice of the people today & the future. As an Ambassador and a Public Figure, I promote International Tourism, Understanding, Goodwill and Peace. My coach also influenced me on focusing into The Clean and Green Environment and also to Promote the Healthy Relationship with the Environment. Raising Awareness such as Don’t Hate or Discriminate, EMBRACE DIFFERENCE is also one of my main Advocacy. I do my advocacy as a Title Holder daily to promote and show my platform to the world. I love what I do and always & forever will be passionate on helping others.

World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?

I am doing my best to be active on my appearances daily. I promote my title and my pageant by making a lot of appearances at local or international places. I am honored to witness different events in this reign. I am very lucky to have a lot of friends and family who invites me to their event. I am active on doing charity works / community service and judging different pageants in different places around the world. I also met beautiful and admirable beauty queens which represented the Philippines in International stages too. My most unforgettable appearance was meeting Miss Universe Demi Leigh Nel-Peters, Iris Mittenaere and our very own Pia Wurtzbach. I have been recognised by the Government in different places of the Philippines. In this coming week, I have been invited to the Rigodon de Honor which means Coronation Ball of Mutya ng Lipa and I will also be doing a parade in Recognition of my Win in the following day.    I have met amazing people through doing my appearances. There were different experiences in each of my appearances and that is what makes each and every single appearances fun and exciting.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements?

I would like to say that I am very proud of myself of accomplishing a lot of things in a young age. My greatest achievement in life is representing my beloved country The PHILIPPINES. After winning, I felt that day is the day that I made a difference and gave all my best for my country as their early Christmas gift from me. I am also one of the highest ranking in Beauty Pageants that won this 2018 from the Philippines. I have been feature in different magazines and newspapers too. On the other hand, in academics I am a consistent honour student. I definitely work hard on my studies for my future. Last but not the least, MY SUPPORTERS are my proudest achievement, their love and support has given me strength and made me who I am today.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over?

One of the things that people doesn’t know about me is that I am self-taught which means having knowledge or skills acquired by one's own efforts without formal instruction, on throughout my journey in Beauty Pageants. The best strategy to win pageants is to study recent news and happenings of the world, that is very important if you really want to join pageants because you must have beauty and brains to win the hearts of the people. Next, is the walk. Having your own signature walk would give the judges a good impression on your performance. I personally practice my walk wearing my 5- inches heels made by our very own Jojo Bragais, in front of a whole size mirror. My coach who is Jun Atienza Magana helps me find gowns that I could use for the actual pageant. He is also my adviser for making sure I get that crown.

World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?

I believe that each one of us was deserving for that crown, it’s just a matter of fact that it was my time to shine and to make my country proud that day. Each of us had the potential to become the Teen Miss Global United and I am so happy that I met those beautiful ladies. All of us as an individual has an asset that makes us unique from each other. I think that I stand out the most because I was confident with myself and I prepared so much for that pageant to bring the crown for the first time to the Philippines. I also had my family with me which made me eager to win that wonderful pageant.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.

When my name was called, I was speechless and my heart was racing. I was day-dreaming when they read my name out. The first thing I did was to look to my family and I can see their teary, proud eyes while taking me pictures while I was crowning. I almost cried in that moment because all of my hard work, perseverance and dedication preparing pays off. One thing that pop out of my head is that I made the Philippines proud again and I will be bringing the crown home. It took me months after that for things to settle and to get back into the headspace of going back and living life in the Philippines. It feels like just yesterday that I won Teen Miss Global United, even though it has been some months. I dedicated my life preparing for that moment right there. 7 crowns down and more to go, believe it or not and the part that most people won’t understand, I’M JUST GETTING WARMED UP.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?

Until now, I can’t believe that I am Beauty Queen. It is an absolute honour being admired by other people by my profession.  Most people think that being a Beauty Queen is only based on how you look like and how you are a woman judged most beautiful in a contest but it is how you reach out to other people and your personality that makes you shine in pageants. Being a Spokesperson, is what I truly love about my job. I can help people’s life by doing a difference and being in charity works & community services. I also remind myself to always be confident because there are people looking up to you and wants to be like you. That is what it means to me being a role model and a beauty queen.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?

It helped my life by having more opportunities and blessings after winning 4 Titles in my journey of Pageantry. With the announcement of my name, my life changed. It was a dream come true to me and my family. It brought me to different places and meet amazing people along the way. It taught me that I need to learn to be humble, yet confident, about who I am and what my capabilities are. All in all, I can say that my life has change but not myself, not Diosem. That is what I am also proud about. Global United Pageant taught me to keep my head up. Once I realized all of those things, it made me a stronger competitor, and it made me more motivated to walk away with the crown.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your selfesteem and body image?

Pageants changed my life and for the better. It made my aware of how I look like and what I do. Being a role model, helped me to become successful in this industry. I love how people in this industry is very supportive to one another. I have grown and changed into a wonderful Lady. From the moment I won Global United Pageant, I went from just having faith, to a happy, outgoing, confident girl. The feeling of being on stage is what has impacted my life the most. Being on stage in front of the lights, feeling like your best self and wanting to show the world, is the greatest feeling ever. I realized the true meaning of beauty in pageantry which is being you & being unique and that is how Pageants help my self-esteem and body image. World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?

It is a wonderful feeling to be an inspiration to the youth. Being an inspiration feels like a huge responsibility. I believe that how the youth behaves or be inspired is in us, the Public Figures we have today. That is why I am setting a goal every time I visit somewhere and do appearances which is to touch their hearts and to believe to themselves that they can achieve anything they want in life. Inspiration can also come from seeing other’s success or remembering our past success through a tough phase of life. That is what makes somebody inspire to do something and achieve what they want to do or change. Every time I see kids going up to me, I always have time to talk to them and hear what they want to say because that’s what they need to have an inspiration throughout their childhood. They should also be guided and to be taught in their early days. I have a quote that inspired me to wake up everyday and do what I truly want: “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.” This is what I want to share to girls that look up to me every single day.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?

First things first, I do exercises and stretching before I walk, do and train my pageant walk to be able to increase my range in motion and reduces injury. After warming up, I put on socks before putting on my heels because it would be a lot of hours training for practicing my walk and we won’t like having blisters on our feet after the training. It is very important knowing your strength and weakness before joining a pageant because it makes you stronger. That is why Beauty Queens spends hours and hours practicing their perfect walk. Nothing is more important to your overall pageant score than perfecting your pageant walk and mastering your pageant poses. With your perfect walk, your confidence that you show on stage will be worth the crown. My top tips on walking is to have a good posture, make your hips sway, let your hands sway naturally and have your own modelling routine. Onstage remember to look up, smile, stay loose and have fun.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?

Luckily, I have a wonderful team with me who helps me find the perfect dress and costumes. They are both a Couturier / Designer based in my province: Lipa, Batangas. The Couture Shop is called FRANCKO HOUSE OF COUTURE headed by Frank Neil Lapina and MIKAELAH MICHELLE FASHION AND DESIGN headed by Mikaelah Michelle herself. Pageant dresses styles have changed greatly due to diversifying tastes and fashions. The most important thing to note when looking for winning pageant gown styles is the Trend. My number 1 tip for choosing the right gown is to find a good dress that flatters your body and pair it with accessories that looks match to each other. It doesn't need to be super expensive or fancy. Just something that you look good in. If you want to win you have to look current at all times!

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview?

This is my favourite portion of the pageant and this is also the most awaited part because it would test you if your worthy or deserving to have the title and crown. This portion would also give the audiences a better understanding of the contestants grace under pressure, as well as personal advocacies. You would need both Beauty and Brains joining Pageants. My Q & A Coach, Sir Jun Atienza Magana, taught me to answer questions in a limited time and it molded me to answer any questions with confidence. Before the pageant, I studied and tested my capabilities every day in making my answers ending it with a boom. I also studied the latest and current news so that I’ll be prepare in any questions. During the Pageant Interview, I kept my posture straight in the same time looking elegant, kept an eye contact with the judges and being optimistic while I amaze the judges with my answers.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?

I actually do not want to redo or fix any mistakes while I was competing because I learned so much from it and gave me strength that I learned how I put make up to myself without anybody’s guide. That is what I am proud of until today because nowadays I can do my own makeup fabulous. When I go to different challenges, I want to learn from it so for the next I’ll be more prepared and have a better understanding. I also was given a small time amount of preparation for The Global United Pageant and it did not come to way on vying that title for my country. This has been all for you Philippines, forever will be!

World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest?

I personally think that most girls don’t trust themselves in doing Pageants and that is one common mistakes that are made by girls competing. If you want to win the crown you should be prepare, follow your heart and be confident no matter what other people tells you what to do. Some girls wear dresses that doesn’t not suit them well, what I mean is the colour and patterns of the gown should be fitting to the person who would be competing with it. I definitely wish that girls competing to one another would recognize that the crown would only be the one thing that they would win but that’s wrong because in that competition you would be meeting wonderful people in that organization which are your Pageant Sisters forever. The experience is also one of the main thing you would be grateful for having it, It would surely make you a better person and learn a lot of things as a person. Lastly, their FAITH in God should always be remembered throughout the journey because he could help you to become successful and see the wonderful things in life.

World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience?

Before entering the Pageantry World, I started doing modelling since I was 3 years old. It was a stepping stone for me to become a celebrity here in the Philippines. I loved it! It is just like Pageants but easier. I would always prepare a modelling routine every Fashion Show I attend. I believe that it is a work of art because I would be showcasing, displaying and posing. It also helped me to have a good sense of style, adaptability, a positive attitude, excellent stamina, communication skills, ability to look good at all times and an outstanding facial projection. After winning my first International Pageant which is the Miss Teen World Tourism which was held in Tokyo, Japan, I started my Acting Career in doing workshops in ABS CBN Star Magic Workshop taught by my loving teacher: Miss Rubi Rubi, she is a professional and admirable actress here in the Philippines. What makes this workshop special is that this is the only acting workshop accredited by Ivana Chubbuck: the acting coach of the stars in Hollywood. Chubbuck’s students have included big names such as Brad Pitt, Halle Berry, Judith Light, Jared Leto, Beyoncé Knowles and much more prominent actors.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2018 as a Queen?

I have a lot in mind at this moment but I would surely do community service around my country and to judge pageants. I’ll be also flying to different places to promote The Global United Pageant. I am very excited for this reign to be a memorable one. I will be focusing a lot in my appearances so that my organization would appoint me to become a Lifetime Queen. I worked hard for this title and I’ll be making most out of it. I would make my advocacy more emphasised. I’m praying that this title would give me opportunities in acting, modelling, and especially in the Entertainment Industry. I would use this crown to do something for humanity. That’s cliché for some people. But it’s real.

World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

I would love to leave a legacy behind where all people will remember me as their Public Figure. I want to be remembered in theirs hearts and minds because my mother once told me that a legacy isn't only about leaving what you earned but also what you learned. I would like to leave knowledge and wisdom in the lives of people I affect in my lifetime. I want to be remembered with a smile and love. I stand today to have a name and a legacy that makes people to know about who I truly am. It is very important to teach young children the right way of doing things. I hope in the succeeding years I’ll make my country proud and the world once again. They would always remember A Girl who achieved her dreams & shared it to other dreamers and her name is DIOSEM LLEYD MAGLINAO BUDIOS.
